Thanks savydog.

Zeropoint, are you saying that if I have x points directly from the KF card and transfer y points from my amex membership rewards ascent account in order to redeem my wanted tickets, then I wont be eligible for the travel insurance?

Yes, you will not be eligible. They all have to come from the KF card.

Yes that is correct.

I rarely pay for an International Ticket, and redeem awards instead and so until my next trip have mostly had a TID yearly policy (or similar) to ensure I was covered.

Only occasionally was I in a position where I could back up any checking from the CC insurance that all points, or rather enough points, could have been earned by the relevant CC.

Will have the Plat Charge Card for the next 12 months...so no need for TID.

Thanks guys. In my next birth, I wish I was a T&C lawyer :).

So, these guys are tricky now - when you redeem, you really only redeem the base fare and have to pay the taxes and surcharges in cash (I mean credit or debit). So, really, is all the trouble really worth it?

For me yes. Just booked 4 syd-yvr and cost me 1k from memory compared to 8k+ to buy outright

Yeah I think so, I just snared a round trip from SYD to LA Via Singapore in J Saver in Feb for $800 or so vs $8000.

That to me is worth it.

Granted not the newest J Product, but Regional C and Spacebeds on the Top Deck of the 747 isnt so bad and much better than being in Y especially as I am going to Vegas for the weekend for a stag do.

J saver is a real winner! Hope you love it!
I am trying the First saver on Wednesday and I got Mrscove on standard 11 days before the flight so she is now on board too.

But J Saver is only offered in the 777-200 planes, are there any in the 777-300ER or A380 perhaps?

Not much flexibility here I feel.

747 on Saver is a great way to go to LAX.
My 200,000 point J and F out of Perth to Los Angeles is great use of points.
That includes the A340 sleeper flight coming home LAX-SIN.

Ok thanks, is the A340 the all business class flight from SIN to LAX?

If J saver can apply to that flight, then it is great.

Only problem is that seats are very limited for redemption for the Saver class.

You really need to accumulate the standard J class points to get a smooth run.

I hope the 747 business class is great. Never been on it, but the 777-200 business class is a real shocker. I can't really sleep flat when I travelled from MEL to SIN. Will try to avoid 777-200 at all cost.

Yes the A340 is a 98 seat all business class and I loved it.
It really depends on the time for connections and so I generally try for a 3 hour gap and the Changi lounge at 6am is great in business class.
To be frank,I am relaxed about either Saver or Standard redemptions as I just work harder on producing the FF points in each month.

cove, one thing great about SQ is that once you got enough points, you can basically get whatever day on the plane on any J class seat.

Even 1 month in advance is not any problem.

agree on this. SQ does have good flexibility on booking seats once you have enough points.

Now that figure "enough" varies from person to person.
With KRIS I think of "enough" being that number that you can use inside that 3 year use by date together with being able to go everywhere/anywhere at short notice in the flying class that you desire.
Currently I have "enough" so I am working on getting Mrscove to that level in the next 8 weeks.
If you become relaxed about not always getting SAVER and accept some STANDARD then you can really go places with KRIS redemptions.

Yeah deffo agree if your not bothered about getting Saver's then Standards can take you pretty much anywhere which is great.

The new 777-200 has the new Regional C which is all retrofitted, so yeah will be interesting to try that!

HI guys not sure if this is the place to ask this but i am trying to book a one way sin-melb and am trying to use the westpac platinum promo (50% off) however everytime i put it in i keep getting the selected flights are not available for the promo. I have tried on business saver/standard & full. I spoke to kris and the first time the guy who booked said i cant do this online and only thru calling in. The next time i called to follow up on this the girla that answered said that i can only do it online..So i have abusiness saver held at the moment and am waiting for the westapc card awards guys to call and try and sort this out ?/ Any suggestions

The coupons can only be used for a discount off redemption economy seats or to upgrade a purchased Y fare to a J.

It is in the terms and conditions. I recall seeing that it may be different next year.

Edit: I went to this site http://info.westpac.com.au/singaporeairlines/Default.aspx to add a link to the description of the SQ coupon. It seems to have disappeared from the website. That's ominous for next year!

Thanks thats exactly right...ahh well i guess its economy on the A380 for me..

The good thing is now they allow the coupon to use as an upgrade to J. I think when it was first offered, this was not achiveable.

For SQ the upgrade can be confirmed straight away if you have a Y ticket, so as long as you have enough points, it is smooth sailing.

Received a letter in the mail today...

The Visa card is changing from
$1 = 1 KrisFlyer Mile TO
$1 = 0.5 KrisFlyer mile

This is in line with other banks offerings I guess. Honestly I didn't know that it was 1 for 1 on the Visa and already assumed it was 1=0.5

:evil::evil::evil::evil:

For use outside of Aussie the Visa is still $1 = 1.5 which is good :)
