Just used the Visa version to prepay a large bill seeing the point a dollar part of the card moves to half rate from about 15th March.

Paying all my accounts immediately at the moment. After 15th , will continue to use the Amex until just before the card reaches the expiry date and will then cancel.
After the 15th, I will begin using the 2 Citi Emirates cards (Mrs Max and mine) until $100K is spent on each one. After this it might be time to consolidate my cards.
At this stage the NAB Plat Qantas card seems good value for money and uncapped.
Waiting to see the CBA offer with their new card , Diamond Card , being released on the 28th March. I just hope they don't make the offer sound great but with hard to figure out conditions as they did with the Platinum Card.

If I make the purchase on Monday 14 March on the VISA, and if the bank processed the transaction on March 15, do I still get the 1 point per dollar deal on the VISA?

It is a public holiday in Melbourne on Monday, and I doubt the bank will process the transaction that day?

I would assume that any purchases actually dated 14th will indeed earn at 1:1 - the T & C's are quite clear.

Singapore Airlines Westpac Platinum Visa ® Card purchases with merchants located within Australia - earn 1 KrisFlyer mile per $1 spent on purchases until 14 March 2011 (will be 0.5 KrisFlyer mile per $1 spent on purchases 1 from 15 March 2011)

I Will not be canceling the card because:
Big tax bills can still go on the Amex part of the card and
The redemption product is so good and so available that I will use SQ for a part of our long haul and
Mrscove is very particular and there are airlines she would not wish to travel with

My Citi Select uncapped point a dollar card arrived yesterday so that will cause the Westpac Visa Kris to get put on ice until they reconsider which is highly unlikely.
Westpac cancelled out of the Holden card last year but I can still redeem the cash rebate on our Holden Commodore fleet renewals for 5 years from the date they stopped that one.
By midnight on 14th March we will have run up enough for 15 return long hauls so I am feeling that is worth about $150k that my short travel arms will not need to pay. Pointy end travel is quite addictive from my perspective.

Well done cove, not sure how many points you make each month. I thought 100k a month myself was a decent effort.

No wonder Westpac has to cut back on those VISA points now.

Seem like signing up Citi Select VISA is a MUST now!

It took 21 days to get the new card from Citi but it was ok because it has arrived just before the Westpac Kris Visa gets retired.
I will miss cashing large cheques into this card on the day I was paying bills.
If not for this cashing facility down the street I would never have known the inside of the Westpac branch.
I would doubt Gail Kelly would make it into a top 100 popularity on this forum because we paid an annual fee for something that will not be delivered for the full year.
Lucky it is just a game and maybe it will curtail our fiendish behaviour but I don't think we can change.

Interestingly my statement dated 6/03 says this

Did you know that you can earn 1.5 KrisFlyer miles per dollar spent on
eligible purchases on your Singapore Airlines Westpac Platinum American
Express Card?

In addition, when using your Singapore Airlines Westpac Platinum Visa
Card, you can earn 1 KrisFlyer mile per dollar spent on purchases with
merchants located within Australia, and 1.5 KrisFlyer miles per dollar
spent on purchases with merchants located out of Australia.

I.e. no mention that this deal is ending, would be interested to hear what the banking ombudsman would say on this. Would suggest from my experience (and yes I am in the finance industry so have had experience) this would be enough for them to force them to pay what they have said they will pay given this is my latest correspondence from them. Pretty stupid IMO to be sending out statements saying this.

The AMEX component of this card is still very attractive don't forget, it is 1.5 points per dollar, and double it if you are booking a SQ ticket (even with the tax component alone).

If you use the VISA overseas, you still get 1.5 points per dollar.

Not all doom and gloom I suppose, if you are overseas often enough?

As does mine my friend - but as sure as night follows day any purchase you make from Tuesday onwards with your WSQPVC will only earn you 0.5pt / $1 spent - unless the greatest somersault in history occurs before then.

Absolutely 100% correct - but AMEX Plat is better at same earn rate IMHO as it gives me flexibility in transferring points to a number of carriers if I choose to do so - AND - I just love those % bonus that are occasionally offered to transfer points from AMEX to KF.

Yes I'm confident that I'll only be credited with 0.5 pts but can tell you banks really hate it when things are referred to the ombudesman, that is they are usually happier to settle disputes once the ombudsman is involved/threatened because it just becomes really costly to them in time to deal with the ombudsman. So big tip for complaints with the banks, a threat to refer to the ombudsman (or just doing it) is a really good bargaining lever, more often than you think they will just (quietly) come to an "arrangement".

Ok yes, I see your point, if you can get AMEX Platinum, then this Kris Flyer card is totally useless after 15 March.

Hope they change the Westpac Kris VISA earn rate back to where it should be in 6 months time!

NO NO NO not correct - WSQPAmex gives you 3:1 pts on SQ product purchases - so it is superior to AMEX Plat there.

The 1.5:1 on Visa for inter purchases is also good as many places I visit in China won't accept AMEX - it's just here in Oz where the 0.5:$1 earn rate is going to hurt me - QF points no real value to me - KF is all I am after on Visa - as I have posted Citi knocked me back twiice already - seems a monthly $30,000 spend on Visa still not attractive to them if you have no income.

Don't you just love banks

Received this in email this morning - 24 hours after they 1/2 the earn rate on Visa purchases they then offer a 15,000pt inducement to try to get some suckers to take up the card to replace their existing customers who will be cancelling / fleeing the card.

It is very difficult for me to understand the logic of banks...even for 15,000 points not that exciting.

I guess Westpac cannot advertise that they just screwed all their current Platinum Kris Flyer Visa customers (who paid the annual fee) but I can!
Unhappy that they did not let it run for the card year because they are just way too greedy for their own good.

Which I expect for many of us would only have many untill May, the 2nd anniversery of the original launch?

I was planning to ditch this card altogether, but I think as I get it free as a Westpac customer, i'll hang-on to it for the 1.5/$1 overseas visa spend.

If I had not paid $0 , I would be asking for my fees back.

Card is now dead to me. All VISA spending switched to Citibanak...and KF Amex has been going to Amex for a while due to be effective point earn due to promos.

Once various booking on it have been used card will be canceled.
