  • Premium saver awards are not available on all flights although this is slowly starting to change
....

Why do you say this? I have not seen premium seats on the 380/77W being released as saver awards, except during supposed glitches once in a long long while! In fact as of now, I would say premium seats on SQ are harder to find due to retirement of the older aircrafts.

How easy is it to use Kris Flyer points to redeem for business or first class travel? Can it be done ?
My first view on this credit card is that it gives you a second chance at getting to places that QF dont go.
The 3 year termination of points could hurt someone who is not watching.

It is reasonably easy, but as with anything 'free', you have to do it in advance a fair bit.

SQ plays around with the timings of your flight on award. For eg, the one that I redeemed for Mel-Sin-Blr and back. The ticket was issued in 'I' class (discounted Business). The onward journey was on a nice 747 (new business class seats), the return journey was on a coughpy 777-200. We also got the 2nd flight out from Sin to Mel, and hence a 1 hour extra wait in the lounge (didn't really matter, though).

I think I like the idea of this card. I travel to SIN and BLR at least once a year. I think I will cancel the Amex Platinum and hitch on to the SQ Westpac bandwagon.

Yes, I wont get the free domestic ticket (return) valued at ~ 20, 000 FF points, but I am getting 10, 000 points sign up bonus, 3 point per dollar x ~ 5 months and paying only $125 as annual fee to make up for the flight and more- I think this is a fantastic bargain when compared to Amex Platinum. I will think about next year when I get there!!

NB, I don't think that you can really say you earnt 290,000 MR point for $700 membership fees, since I suspect that most of those points were earnt from promos.
You are quite in that I have not earned all those MR points without various promotions.

You're still only earning 1,000 QF points each way as Plat. That means 71 return trips for a Oneworld award, ignoring loyalty bonuses. Or close to $10k-$15k spent to get a $3.7k RTW ticket. Of course, this is assuming that you're on the cheapest fares flying on QF.
I do ~40 return flights SYD-BNE every year and most are on the cheapest airfares except during school holidays and other peak travel times. So even if have spent ~$12,500 travelling back and forth to get a RTW ticket worth ~$3,700 then I have in actual fact only spent ~$8,800 travelling back and forth which makes the next cost of each flight even cheaper than originally purchased.

Staying in Brisbane is not really an option as I would be very lonely and I am certain that I will drink more alcohol and spend more money gambling than I do in Sydney.

I am only really interested in WHY availability so do not do much reseaarch on premium seats. My apoloogies if my statement is incorrect as vaguely recall people posting on AFF that they have seen more availability of premium seats on the A380 and B77W released recently that appears to be more than just a glitch but would appear to be SQ trying to fill up premium cabins.

A bargain card. Will replace my Amex Platinum for this definitely. Especially with a spend of >100K per year will add up quite quickly for the remainder of the year (esp as platinum fees will soon be due at 295AUD).

Just applied...no instant success...has been "referred"!? - which I dont like the sound of...

any ideas what that means ? a "No" perhaps....

How do u folk out there juggle your cards when applying for a new one. Cancel the old first or apply and cancel?

I sent an email to my relationship manager at the bank and told him what I wanted. He sent me a form to change the card type which I returned. I expect the 2 cards in the next 10 days. :D

I haven't done the sums but from what I read here, the 10k points to start with first use, the bonus over several months, and my spend will get me off to a good start. I suspect I will remain on qf gold and rather than putting more flights with OW and still falling short of platinum, SQ and *Alliance will give me more choices.

In the switch for I got (for Altitude to KF card), was this little thing, so I haven't done anything at the moment (but will look at it again toward the end of my current annual fee year!)

By switching from an existing Westpac credit card you are not entitled to receive any promotional KrisFlyer miles on the first purchase made with your new Gold or Platinum card.

Oh boy! Well, that's fine print for me. I hope there's nothing to say one can't put business-related charges through these cards. I hope not.

It should not take long for the Westpac computer to pick you up and offer you a business version of this credit card.
Once this occurs the trader you pay then will pay an unregulated merchant fee of about double that of a personal credit card.
You just keep on getting the most out of this system by paying whatever you can this way.

After some discussions with my home financial controller and worked out the sums, I have finally applied for Platinum card online. Being an existing Westpac customer and they already have all my info in database, I was approved within 60 seconds. However, the only annoying thing is that they are offering me a credit limit that I can buy a car with .... I don't need that much!!!!http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/trip...polynesia-first-time-ever-business-class.html

With Westpac there is no need to apply for a "new" card, they have a “switch form” which allows you to switch between different card types.

Using the switch option you retain your credit limit, there's no credit check and for some time, transactions posted to your old card are automatically transferred to your new card account.

But the bonus points on first transaction do not apply, and if you switch to a card that has a minimum credit limit above your current limit, the credit limit may increase to the minimum for the card.

I have an existing Westpac Ignite card and they still approved me with the Platinum card without cancelling existing westpac card. So it makes no difference.

It will be interesting to see if existing Westpac card holders receive the 10,000 point sign-on bonus.

At the time of applying I read the T&Cs of the Westpac Krisflyer card offer and it didn't exclude existing Westpac customers from the signon bonus. I went ahead and applied.

Now, to wait 45 days after first purchase.

You can either sign up as a new card by using the online application. This will not cancel an existing card.

Or you can transfer an existing card across, using the transfer form. This will result in the existing card being cancelled.

It makes a difference for the reasons outlined.

Not all may be approved in the same manner as you were. People may not want to keep both cards. People may not want to have to go through a credit check. People may want debits to the old card transferred.

Everyone's circimstances are different, so yes, it does make a difference.

I'm in a similar situation. I had an existing Wespac CC which I was about to cancel, but when this product came along I decided to move across.

I hope WBC customers transferring across to the KF Plat cards do recieve the bonus miles, otherwise I'll be kicking myself for not cancelling and then cold applying.

I went to apply via the switch form available online, but the form did not include the SIA card. Has anyone the url link for the new form? Thanks
