Westpac Singapore KrisFlyer Credit Card

I'm in a similar situation. I had an existing Wespac CC which I was about to cancel, but when this product came along I decided to move across.

I hope WBC customers transferring across to the KF Plat cards do recieve the bonus miles, otherwise I'll be kicking myself for not cancelling and then cold applying.

When I negotiated my switch I had the 10K included.

Whether they give it to all...or just those that ask I do not know.

I got my cards in the mail today and the letter they were stuck to clearly says 10K bonus points when you make your first purchase.

Mine came via my local branch. Same letter outlining the qualifying conditions and confirming the 10,000 pts.

I got a snail-mail letter from SQ today offering me a plat card. Does seem a better offer than Earth or Altitude at the moment.

I've just pent 30 min reading all of the posts and my first excitement (as a brand new KF member) has waned. For the sake of transferring from my Altitude Platinum, I would trade off my unlimited time to accumulate points which I can convert to KF on a 2:1 basis and which are accumulated at 3points/$ on the Amex for the sake of 10k points and double earnings until October.

Having collected some 800k points over the last 7 years and just converted most of them to KF, the idea of getting exactly the same earn and an expiry of 3 years doesn't seem that appealing. 10,000 points and a short boost just isn't worth the trade-off methinks.

Obviously it depends on the ratio of transactions, but the Visa component offers double the earning on KF than via Altitude. As with all cards, you need to consider your own situation

Regarding TheNovice's post:

Your Krisflyer miles will expire at the end of the month 3 years after they appear in your Krisflyer account no matter how you earnt them. So the points you have transferred will expire just the same as any points earned using the new Westapc Krisflyer cards.

One time only, prior to expiry, you can extend the expiry date in blocks of 3 months for a fee. KrisFlyer members may extend their miles for a period of up to six months. KrisFlyer Elite Silver, KrisFlyer Elite Gold and PPS Club members may extend their miles for a period of up to one year at a reduced rate compared to KrisFlyer members.

KrisFlyer miles that have already expired cannot be extended.

Boost is permanent on VISA.

Also in my case I had an altitude Gold..so this earns more.

It will also eran at 1.5 compared to the 1.125 that my Amex Max will drop to after June.

Howevever I agree that if one's CC spend is low then a program without time limits may be more attractive.

In my case I have just calculated how many points per year I will earn, and even after the initial boost it would still be as a minimum a Business Class return to Europe each year, and more than I can earn for any other current card that I am eligible for. For my circumastances it will outperform any other card including all fees etc (and some I have are free).

Well mine was rejected! (sighs)

Seems pushing 100K or more through cards per year doesnt help?

Turns out it is because I have only been running my company for 1.5 years and I cannot "guarantee job security". I find the blanket use of these "criteria" quite strange particularly as a doctor for nearly a decade and having to be employed by different hospitals and health services and then starting ur own company.....seems each one is considered as different employment!

Tried discussing this with westpac card services and they didnt care...time to check my credit report as well i suppose.

I will be loyal to my amex instead. :)

I think you'll find the difference with TheNovice is that his KF miles don't directly transfer across every month, only when he wants them to whereas the KF AMEX/Visa will auto transfer each month, thus reducing their life.

Mine was instantly approved over the weekend and literally yesterday I could see the new credit card account in Westpac online. Now I am just waiting for the letter from Westpac and get the card and start using it. I have my yearly car rego and insurance to pay, plus some holiday expenses coming in. Perfect timing. :p

Mine took 5 days to arrive. It has been getting a nice working out since as I like you was saving some expenditure for it. ;)

That is an excellent example of needing to keep the big picture in sight. My immediate goal is to accrue as many points as possible in the next year to fly 2A2C to Europe. I like many people were burnt by Ansett loss - I dont allow the points to build too high.

Altitude does offer the flexibility of other non-flight awards as well.

Many of my mates were burnt too. I was lucky and had redeemed 500K two weeks prior the collapse..luckily on SQ which they honored.

However it does color my thinking and is one reason why I am content to have points squirreled in a number of organisations.

With KF..I am happy to have some direct earn points go there..with myself topping it up as required when I redeem from my "bank" of Amex points to get the reward I am targeting.

At least fir next year or so SQ is likely to be my airline program of choice for redemptions.

If something changes...then that may too...which is the other reason to not move all my points to SQ.

However till Oct 31...this card is great Points Run opportunity for me and continues my "dream" run that I have been having over the last several years.

Refer here (KeithMEL on SQTalk): The fine print on the switch form says no bonus miles for customers transferring from other cards.
However:
(1) Internet banking didnt display this clause when making the transfer application
(2) The letter and the full T&C don't make any mention of switched card users being ineligble. They just say 10k bonus miles when card first used.

Based on this, I will contest if I'm not awarded bonus miles. Or do people suggest I should contact WBC right away to clarify the situation?

Given this information, if you are considering 'switching', might I suggest a fresh application, rather than an internal switch as to avoid any potential issues with bonus miles.

Sorry No hyperlinks for new users :-(

The SQTalk thread on this topic to which penegal has referred to:
Australia - Westpac Singapore Air Credit Card - SQTalk

(especially post 15 onwards)

Seems like a great deal of confusion and misinformation as to whether one gets the bonus miles if switching or not - potentially a botched promo mk 2 AMEX stylie?

Seems a bit circular, as the posts on SQTalk refer back to this thread!

Anyway, try as I might I can't find the online swicth tool of which people over their speak. I just get to a form to fill in and mail in.

I am a bit ignorant with non-QF FF plans and just wondering...can KF miles be transferred as possible with QFF miles among family members? And can those KF FF points be used to upgrade family members?

You cannot transfer miles to family members like QF, but you can redeem awards for up to 5 nominees that you selected.

I suggest anyone who are thinking of switching from existing an Westpac card, just apply the Krisflyer card instead if they can, then cancel the old one. You don't want to wait for 45 days and find out that you are not eligible to the bonus miles. Mine was approved and I still have existing Westpac ignite card.

I just applied for, and was approved, the Platinum card, over the phone. I also get the 10,000 points on first use of the card.

So I would suggest you apply by phone rather than use the switch form if you want the extra points.
