Westpac Singapore KrisFlyer Credit Card

Getting the Qantas Credit Union CC and an HSBC CC are important developments in our frequent flyer lives even though we have both types of Citi points earning cards. We do have multiple Amex cards and my son has an Amex Black I can stuff full if all else fails. I have most things covered and I will be using our US cards from next weekend.
No one I know has the perfect solution but with much to pay I feel I have quite a bit of flexibility in 6 wallets of CC cards and loyalty cards.
Westpac Platinum Kris Flyer Amex will still be a winner for seats in row two or three despite the pending drop in points earn and the additional redemption fees.

IMHO the only problem of spreading Amex accros 2 or more cards is that is increases the ATO % of spend on KF - I too still hold Black but I have it fee free for 2 years so it will just lay dormant. I am happy to funnel ALL Amex spend through KF as it just helps to blend ATO / non ATO spend.

This is a really important point I think we all should heed

I'm paying particular attention to this with my CBA Diamond Amex. With a lot of ATO going on there I would be really sad if they follow Westpac's example. Hopefully by mixing it with lots of non-ATO it is less likely to upset them

Yes and No

Yes, we should be doing it (I have).

No, it won't be that effective as no matter how you mix it, the ratio would always be skewed.

Impossible to have 30:70 let alone 50:50 outcome !

The figures are not possible to match up, at least in my little case.

We like to think it is better but that's hopeful rather than factual (unless someone working for the banks says otherwise).

Yes I agree it's impossible to balance in terms of transaction value - the value of ATO transactions dwarfs the others. I'm just hoping that if the ATO transactions are mixed among 100 other transactions on a 5 or 6 page statement, it doesn't stand out so much. We can only hope :)

I highly doubt they'd be looking through everyone's statement, any analytics would be largely automated and looking for patterns. So if they are looking at your account it's likely you have already been flagged!

I don't think so, in my opinion this is still competitive, just no longer a standout. Bear in mind the $ has gone down a lot so it is probably more expensive for them to buy points. Reducing to 1:1 or lower, they'd be trying to get you to close!

Is the earn rate for foreign purchases using visa changing? 1.5:1

With the lousy Westpac exchange rate you might find that you are effectively getting points for overseas purchases at about 3 cents odd each. Now that is way outside the mental pain barrier. Use of a fee free and point free card would be ok in such a circumstance (Citi debit or 28 degrees and others).

This card was excellent when it first came in, and they have peeled back benefits year by year.

I hope we are all trying our hardest to get the better of our respective banks. It is not easy to beat them.

Noticed the reduced earn rate note is not on my latest statement received today it was on the last one?

Did I ever tell you guys how much I hate banks and indeed what rogues and thieves they are?

Transferred 50K into this card Fri morn at 8am - still not available to process a pmt - they are now in possession of my money - I am not - and I just cannot use it - jerks.

As a Westpac customer the transfers are virtually instantaneous.
Now CE that is a bummer but you do have 9 days to keep getting 1.5 Kris Miles per dollar spend with the ATO.

By transferred I am assuming you mean you initiated a transfer at 8am (via Bpay)? If so the banks are very transparent in telling us that Bpay is not instantaneous and this could just as easily be a failure of the sending bank to send the money as Westpac to process it to your account.

While I don't particularly like the fact that BPay transfers are not instantaneous I certainly feel that they have advised often and repeatedly the fact that BPay is not an instantaneous transfer.

Well maybe but transfers to Citi always completed within 24hrs if initiated on a weekday - ie transfer at 8am on Fri and funds available for use on Sat - explanation for diff Westpac / Citi other than Westpac just have use of funds for way longer than needed?

CE we need to have Westpac shares as they got 3 days of money for free.

cove I do have WBC and NAB - oh I just love their profitability due to their never ending gouging of their loyal unsuspecting customers!

I can can only transfer max 50K into this card - others the same?

Yesterday transferred another 50K in also cove and was hoping to have 2 pmts to ATO finalised before going to China Tue morn - but that's not going to happen now - lucky my #1 man will be able to effect it in my absence.

Not sure if I've missed something CE.

I've regularly transferred funds to WBC by BPay from CBA always been an overnight affair - shows up in the early hours of the next morning if done weekdays before 6pm AEST.

While BPay has had a $50k limit on one BPay to WBC Altitude in my case), hasn't stopped me from doing more than one in the same day.

I've got Altitude Black. Not sure if they treat SQ card differently. Assume they don't but your experience might suggest otherwise.
