What are your hotel room habits or idiosyncrasies?

My list is kinda sad, I check for possible hidden cameras, check if the locks work properly and cover the peep hole.

One time had a staff trying to come in after I checked in, thankfully the chain lock prevented him.

Not really worried about hidden cameras, if they see me naked they'll gouge their eyes out. A fitting punishment.

Pick up a hotel card whilst checking in. I can get lost between te front door and the footpath and occasionally this has been the only way to know where to return.

I do check if the previous guest has left anything behind. I don't want to be worried about it later.

Check if any items available for purchase are intact. I've found them empty, or with the seal broken and refilled.
Does the safe work?
Does the internet work?
Can I secure the door properly?

Get the bed ready by removing all of those otiose cushions and loosening the blankets.
Whilst doing this I check if the bedding is clean.

Take a photo of the door number so I remember it.
Put the torch in the bedside table after reading the evacuation instructions.

Unpack, the amount of stuff depending on the length of stay.

Start enjoying the stay.

What a long list I'm going to make before my trip!

I wear thongs in the shower.
Keep luggage off the floor and place on the rack (if none, I put in wardrobe)
Re-wash all utensils and crockery.

Check that the wi-fi password is correct and working.

For me the most important (even though I agree with many others) - check hotel safe works (at least 50% of the time it does not) - check WiFi works, logon all devices - check out minibar fridge (does it work; ie often not cold enough; is there space for my own items) - check there are sufficient hangers (usually not).

I’ve had plenty of dead ones, but a recent stay at the Fairmont, Singapore the safe seemed to think it was closed and locked even though it was physically wide open! Any attempt to enter a new code was greeted with a “bugga off” message before taking a 15min hissy fit after 3 failed attempts… Fortunately that was the least of my problems and I was relocated to the room above after almost freezing under an AC that also had cross wires and a self cleaning bathroom whose shower stall flowed the wrong way!

When in AU country motels, play room bingo and let the wife back at home know my score. Marks for exposed brick wall, noisy fridge, pillows wrapped in quilt, Kookaburra or Arnott biscuits, multiple soap dispensers on bathroom wall, clear view in/out bathroom window, diesel 4wd outside adjacent room that will need running for 10minutes at 6am before leaving.

Aaaah - the crime scene tape!
Add to that the ‘room service’ breakfast delivered via the peek-a-boo hutch comprising toast in a bag and square pat of butter…
and perfectly round but rubbery poached egg…
The paper strip across the toilet lid must be worth a few points.?🚽
My cleaner does the chevrons on the toilet rolls! He says he‘d do the tape but can’t find them! 😳

And does this get points when they've replaced something but haven't repaired where the old one was

I loved the “hutch breakfasts” as a child. We grew up on home made wholemeal bread and no sugary cereals so getting perfectly square white bread and cocoa pops in the little box was amazing
