What cheeses me off

WCMO are people that use acronyms that you don't understand. Only for you to later find out that they used the wrong acronym in the first place! ;)

Actually WCMO is people who don't know the difference between an acronym and an abbreviation.
An acronym forms a new word, e.g. QANTAS, whereas an example of abbreviation is WCMO.

WCMO. You email someone asking for a document that was supposed to be sent a few days ago. They reply in a separate email stating they've just sent the document in another email. Of course, it doesn't arrive. And we continue to go round and round in circles.

Isn’t an abbreviation a shortened form of a word
ie Australia is AU
v
acronym is parts of the phrase it stands for
ie ASAP for as soon as possible?

Happy to be corrected…

I would assess WCMO as an acronym

Interesting twist to a story I posted here recently.

Brother did not receive a shipment from eBay and eBay did not want to know. Australia Post showed my brother a photo taken from the driver that package was delivered and it must have been stolen.

I've seen an email sent from the seller to my brother. (eBay account and email address are mine)

The satchel was taken to post office a day after the seller posted it. Apparently the satchel was there for 30 days before being returned to the seller. Apparently the satchel from Australia Post cost $14.10 and my brother paid $13.95 for the goods so the seller is at a loss and reluctant to send a replacement to my brother. (I'm not sure I believe this story)

How does Australia Post tell my brother that package was delivered with proof of delivery. Who took the photo of package if package was sitting in Post office the day after it was despatched by seller? (I'm not sure if my brother took that much notice of the alleged photo but it appears to be clear the driver did not even bother to deliver the package and Australia Post standing by their driver)

Something does not add up.

I think some subcontractors take on too many parcels they cant possibly deliver in a day, pull up outside the premises, take a photo and drive on to the next address. Then take back the excess parcels for redelivery on another day and claim their delivery fee.

I have had twice in the last year working from home and nobody came in the driveway all day yet Australia post claimed they tried to deliver and noone was home.

Fastway couriers (who have renamed themselves to try and lose their bad reputation) used to do this all the time.

Yes. Qantas is an acronym of the airline's original name, Queensland and Northern Territory Aerial Services. But it's not unsual to find people don't know what a adjective vs adverb is so acronym is far beyond them!

WCMO is no shelves in hotel showers. Not even a soap holder. I might want to put some of my stuff in there, you know!

And don’t get me started on looking for all the light switches in hotel rooms. 🤬
Yeah, I never did find that hotel switch in the massive suite I had at HGI Gurgaon...... so I just closed the door and slept in the other room, was easier than getting up to pull out the key card 😅

An abbreviation is a truncated word; an acronym is made up of parts of the phrase it stands for and is pronounced as a word (ELISA, AIDS, GABA); an initialism is an acronym that is pronounced as individual letters (DNA, RT-PCR).

KFC is an abbreviation for Kentucky Fried Chicken

Why is KFC not an initialism?

Obfuscation! To hide the word “Fried” and all those nasty connotations of oil dripping crunchy deep fried rabbit….
I always look forward to Easter Monday and rabbit in white sauce. Hard to find these days.

No no no
An acronym is a word but

A Word made up of initials of a string of words but pronounced as a word

A word made up of initials and pronounced as initials

A word made of a combination of letters and words

A word made up of initials and non initials of words

A word made up of initials but shortcut to less initials.

A word made up of two or more acronyms

In other words it's a word

I think you need professional help.:)

WCMO is the note when staying in an exec level room, advising of the dress requirements for the exec lounge; then when going to the lounge finding some bloke there in a Bintang singlet. (and as he walks into view again, thongs)

Not Australian.

Spanish.

Might even be part of the Wamos Air crew staying here.
