What cheeses me off

We've had everything in a joint account since we first bought a house together, (followed by first child a month later) Wouldn't occur to us to do anything else.
As for us. IMHO it’s a matter of trust in a marriage or permanent relationship. Some may not have this but we have always believed it. Plus it’s a real PITB to go to dinner with couples with independent accounts who want to pay separately.

Surprise presents are sometimes mentioned as an issue but own credit cards can solve that

@TheRealTMA - you raise a sub-fromage in your point. Payment when going out to dinner as a group.🤔
At our age - when husband and I go to restaurants as a group its its family/friends (not acquaintances)
Bill = even split with all pax
I dont drink but thats irrelevant to me in the scheme of things
When its not friends ie people we may have met travelling we discuss upfront how it will be split.
Given we hate all that ‘I did not have the garlic bread’ nonsense we split the food and we may say drinks split between thise who drink alcohol. I stick to water.
WCMO - but only happens when not friends is
- minutiae splitting of items
- forgotten wallets (hence the pre-meal discussion)
- everyone puts in cash (and to cover the tip ) but only amount on bill is paid on the credit card of someone who makes a profit

… first world problems…

WCMO is 30 minutes out from landing at IST I receive an e-mail to let me know my next flight in 2.5 hours IST-TNR is cancelled.... wonder if it's because of the cyclonic activity in the area around MRU (it goes via MRU). Flight only operates once a day and will throw my whole schedule out of whack.

When you get to do that flight, would be really interested in some detail on the IST-MRU-TNR flights, esp the MRU-TNR one, as I'm thinking of doing it (PER-MRU-TNR). A small TR maybe?

Well I'm really cheesed off now!

They didn't even know it was cancelled when I went to the flight ticket desk. They just said delayed. Wait in the lounge (for 8 hours!). I asked about a hotel. They said no hotel, and I also can't use the suites in the lounge either as my original connection was under 4 hours so "doesn't meet the criteria". Ridiculous! Stuck in no man's land at the moment, not much I can do but wait until they can give me some answers.... flight seems to be operating to MRU still so I asked to be flown there and then they can book me onto Air Mauritius to Tana.

A friend has done MRU-TNR, what questions did you have?

You have no way to know how long a relationship will last. Plenty of tales of one party clearing out the others account before a break-up. People have different risk appetites.

If it works for you great, but plenty find it is much better not to.

Plus it’s a real PITB to go to dinner with couples with independent accounts who want to pay separately.

Why single out couples (or do you only socialise with other couples)? The need to split bills arises with single friends, work colleagues too.

Never have an issue with this in this digital age 4 easy solutions:

1. Order and pay upfront at the counter or using the QR code on the tables - this pretty much covers most casual dining and means no one skips out

2. Ask the waiter/cashier to pay separately, tell them what you had and they just select it on their tablet or screen, the computer ads it up and each person taps for their bit and leaves.

3. If they are non digital tell them upfront they can put each persons order on a different docket at time of ordering (with their name). We do this for large work lunches.

4. Take a photo of the bill, one person pays then sms the others what they owe and they transfer the cash immediately using OSCA/Beam etc If they dont pay you back end of friendship.

split with all pax
You guys are minor players....

Years ago we did ski trips with another family
There was no splitting bills at POS (point of sale)

We had a spreadsheet. At the END of the 2 weeks trip the totals were collated and apportioned.

And you kindly offered to pay all the bills with your points-earning card?

I do recall a night thirty years ago at a medical conference where we went out with some six other pax after lectures.
We knew two other colleagues and the others were specialists at the conference too (friends of the two).
No couples - only my husband and me.
I had an entree coffee and water
The night was characterised by large amouts of expensive alcohol being consumed and husband and I coming to realisation we did not like the two that much after all and really loathed their friends who got louder and louder as more alcohol consumed.
In the end the bill came and we were expected to pay $500 each😡😡 — no ifs or buts.
We instituted the new rules after that.

Hi, just the usual stuff. Service, seat in soft and hard product. Up to the usual TK standard?

Ah, well due to cabotage rights you can't pick it up in MRU, you have to do IST-MRU-TNR. It's an A330, so 2-2-2 layout. Seat is meh as you have to step over, or be stepped over unless you sit in the middle, but food is good. Even my meal on LGW-IST tonight was very good. Slightly strange order of service, but otherwise good.

The numpty who parked completely over our driveway and we couldn't leave this morning!!

Car parked some time after 9pm and before 5-6am (one neighbour said he saw it, and he's an early morning gym guy). Bonnet cold when we were trying to leave for school dropoff and work at 7:40am-ish. Tried knocking on neighbouring doors - no answers, apart from gym guy. Not likely to be further up the street. Not a car I recognise, but we've had new tenants move in next door and two doors' down in the past ~3 months.

Called Police Link, they couldn't get in contact with the registered owner. They transferred me to BCC, who said they'd send a parking inspector in the next 3 hrs to issue a fine. Parking person calls me 1hr later to ask if the car is still there - I had no idea as I'm at work by now!

Called an Uber to take the Teen to school, and Mr Katie and I got a train to work.

Left a note under the windscreen wiper, and decided to take the high road and ask them to PLEASE not park over our driveway if they're a regular visitor or parker in this street.

Our car port is unusual for our area, as it has a garage good, which is along our fence/hedge line. The rest of the 10m frontage is hedge and a wooden verandah door (old school Queenslander/cottage style) as our front gate. The driveway is a bit hidden, and the grass is overrun at the moment, it's not even the classic suburban 60s two rows of concrete. BUT there is a FREAKING garage door right there!

Apparently council can get the car towed after issuing a fine/attending. Mr Katie said he might go home early, so we'll see if it's still there in the morning.

My strong suspicion is the car is owned by a friend or partner of someone two doors down. I've had a few instances of another car standing out the front of our house (both legally, and blocking our driveaway enough I couldn't enter) while a pash session occurred in the car.

It's times like this make me want to buy a 20 year old Hilux with massive bull bars on..... you can guess what comes next!

Given up on dividing bills at the table. Given I like wine (an not other peoples' choices!), I pay the full bill, discount the wine portions for some them who don't drinkl, divide the rest and email them bills which are paid by bank transfer. (Also means I get the Amex points. :) )
