Not sure I'd call it a rort - have you seen what international tuition costs look like? I can't understand how any international students can afford to study in Australia without having a job lined up day 1

Likely also the answer as to why the govt won't be rushing to change the rules. I say this in exactly your position with my wife unable to work full time at the moment due to our kids being young and needing to get to places through the week, yet as a casual worker she's often displaced for shifts when the students start, and "curiously" flush with shifts when the year ends.
The problem is these people are not "students". This is the excuse they use to come here to work. There are agents in Thailand at least that make lots of commission from this rort.

And yes they do have restrictive hours and probably pay more tax than back home but can make a killing here working for 3-4 years.

The 2 most popular that I know are restaurants and housekeeping but I think any hospitality job would be lucrative for them. 2-3 rent an apartment together and it's not uncommon to get cash jobs in restaurants where they can earn $2000-$3000 tax free. That's THB50,000-THB70,000 per month. You need a degree in Thailand to work at 7-Eleven and if you're lucky you might make THB15,000 per month. Huge difference.

Korea is cracking down hard on illegal Thais working there. We know a couple from village that has been there 3-4 years and they are earning THB100,000 per month. They have overstayed their visa. They have sent money back to village and built a house, bought an expensive pick-up etc but I think they have ruined their lives as they will have an overstay visa that will last their whole life. Not just Korea but anywhere around the world.

And just a few months back another couple from the same family paid agent to get visa for Korea and when they landed in Korea they were taken to holding cell and sent back to Thailand. They lost more than THB100,000 and now have bad record.

It's going to so hot for Womad they have to have bins to put the bats that are going to fall out of the trees in Botanic Park
But tell people not to pick them up but there will be special collectors. They've come in from the Eastern States in the last few years only. We've had mild summers so they've bred significantly. Also causing power outages and brownouts. I wonder if the environment might take care of the numbers. Up to 60,000 now and zero just a few years ago.
