What cheeses me off

Today hotel breakfast buffets. The woman next to us had a large plate with 1 fried egg and the rest piled with smoked salmon. I do like to have a little smoked salmon at breakfast but when I went there was none left and it wasn’t replaced.
Then the woman left without touching the egg and more than half the salmon left
Arrogant and thoughtless.

Went to a big Greek wedding many years ago. They called out tables one by one to a buffet setup. I was with a group of work colleagues and we were basically the last table called up. When we approached there was nothing, and I mean nothing, left. On the way back to the table I noticed there were people with 3 or 4 plates piled high, most of which went uneaten come the end of the dinner. Our group walked down to the local McDonalds in our suits, whilst the guests were all up dancing back at the venue, and munched on cheeseburgers.

My daughter is 6 years old and I still search for 2 adults when booking. Avoid adult only hotels and I've had no issues.

She sleeps with us in either double bed or 2 singles. Once she is ready for her own bed/room I'll book for 3 people.
+1
I've found the Hilton policy excellent... no additional charge for children up to 18. Probably conditional using existing bedding but often on check-in they've offered a rollaway to be brought up; never charged extra.

Some buffets charge you for any uneaten food - no doubt that would trigger many entitled folks, "Do you know who I am?". "No, but given the fact you're in a wife beater and have a tooth pick stuck between your teeth I frankly don't want to know!" 🤣

(Wife beater is Canadian slang for sleeveless shirt)

I think also English ... for what we would call a singlet. Hence Stella being known as "wife beater ale" in the UK.
Certainly not an Aussie term, I found that out the hard way when I arrived! 😂

You asked for a "wife beater" and someone presented you with the local National Party candidate?
In my case I was apologizing for wearing a wife beater since that was the only shirt I had left. I can't comment on the marital affairs of political leaders, their use of public funds to support extra-marital affairs nor personal and arguably homophobic attacks levied on our business leaders by politicians. Nor is it appropriate for me to comment on a Prime Minister who decided to make themselves King during a once-in-a-century global pandemic.

Sure it is, or at least copied from American films.

Jeez, how long did it take you to look up and create those links? Or did you have them bookmarked?

Surely you could have walked past as she was sitting there with her feast and accidentally too loudly commented 'oh, that's where all the salmon is' and kept walking.

I like it that I don't like the foods on buffets that are always in high demand. ie Seafood.

Club lounges are for DYKWIAs you know so it is what it is. Maybe, or just ask staff for more salmon?

Or maybe the salmon was a bit off and saved you from food poisoning.

A dishwasher will clean a plate ok. It won't clean the interior surface of a glass straw.
Then there might also be the difference between having some remnants of previous drinks in a straw (or food on a washed plate) vs it being clean from the microbiological viewpoint.

Back in time, in my youth, I worked in couple of commercial / industrial kitchens (a hotel and a hospital). The dishwashers there were running bloody hot. The wash was usually set to 75C and drying 90C+. Additionally, the chemicals used would blow everything away. If the washing in any decent commercial / industrial kitchen these days is anything like that, it kills all bacteria a few times over. So, from that viewpoint, the plates, glasses, straws, etc are likely to be bacteria & virus free even if some leftovers survived the wash cycle (plus the ones which some out not-clean go through a repeat cycle). Though, your small corner coffee shop may be equipped at lower grade washer so no guarantees what happens there.

Well, thats how world wars start........

Took our collected empties to the new container return spot at a close by shopping centre. Don’t normally have a great deal to return as we rarely drink soft drink nor beer, so this happens about once every 6 months.
Anyway, this return place needs an app downloaded to your phone (which I rarely carry as I loathe mobiles as well).
Then in a few days your refund will be sent to your linked bank account. Yeah right, as if I trust the ACT government to keep those details nice and secure! :)
I can take the empties to a cash return place but the petrol used probably negates any benefit. I probably should just include the 10 cent refund to the cost of each bottle and put them in the recycle bin. Let the workers at the facility fight over them.
