What cheeses me off

With all the crazy movements and losses on the stock exchange I shouldn't be cheesed off at such a trivial matter thing, but when an order for shares gets only partially fulfilled (as in 1/500th of the order you placed) you end up paying brokerage that is 50% of the purchase amount for said shares. You win some, you lose some but the house always wins ....

If you leave your order on and it is eventually filled you should not be charged any more.

WCMO. GOOGLE!!!!!!!!!! Recently bought a new android phone. Now I am getting messages my gmail account is full and I won't be able to send or receive emails, back up photos etc etc. 2 weeks ago it said 79% full, now it says 100% full.
I had a look at storage and all the photos on my phone are in Google...can't see how to turn this off. I have delated pages and pages of emails and emptied the bin too. Still it says I am 99% full. I've tried deleting the photos with minimal success. It seems I can only delete photos over 5MB. I've spent an hour today deleting stuff with minimal success. It seems this is all about making me pay for stopage. Apart from killing off my google access how do I fix this?

Same with me for ages - even bought a new phone! @prozac
Kept putting photos into folders on desktop and every few days, the message still popped up.
Asked Flyfrequently offspring as they both have Android- both just pay the monthly fee - generational thing methinks!

Now, I'm no tech guru but Googled it and found a YouTube link.
My photos are stored in Photos (not Gallery) now and I switched back up off.
Will look for it for you.

What kind of Android phone did you purchase?

If all your photos are "in Google", then it seems whatever the app is on your phone for handling photos or Gallery (could be Google Photos) is syncing to your Google account. Obviously, this uses up your Google Cloud space, which is a few gigabytes on the free account. For the typical person who keeps whole collections and almost never deletes a photo off their phone, maintaining cloud sync with a free account isn't ideal.

Even if you remove photos from your phone, you typically need to check and it's likely you also need to remove it from Google online (e.g. via Drive or whatever), because removing the local copy on your phone doesn't remove it from a synced version in the cloud (or Google Drive).

Sounds like what you need to do, short of purchasing a subscription to increase your Google space online, is:
  • Disable syncing (or backing up) photos to your Google Drive online from the settings on your phone
  • Go online to your Google Drive and delete the backed up / synced copies of your photos (being careful to delete only the photos which are definitely on your device, i.e. you have a copy of already) - safest thing to do if unsure / lots of photos is download a copy of all photos online to a computer, then delete the online copies
Keep in mind that one photo occupies the same space as a lot of emails, unless those emails are stuffed with attachments. If you capture and save (and sync) videos, those are even more space-consuming. Probably explains why it seems your email cleaning efforts were rather futile.

The thing that is worth being cheesed off about is that all of the big ones - Google, Microsoft and Apple - all turn on auto-sync on setting up all new devices. For those that are either upgrading or don't know about this and stick to free accounts with modest allowances, this can take them by surprise.

Thank you @anat0l . I worked out there was synching and I think I have turned it off. Trying to get rid of the images stored is being problematic. I'll have another look at it later today.

I had the same issue, which popped up after an Android update. I have OneDrive set to backup my photos and videos, simply because I get 1TB of storage with my annual Microsoft Office subscription, rather than use the more limited Google offering.

If you go into the Google Photos app, tap on your account icon in the top right hand corner to open up the options screen, and then scroll down to Photos Settings. Tap on that and you will see the Backup option at the top. If it's turned on, tap on that option and go in and turn the Backup there.

I recently bought a Cleveland Launcher xL2 golf driver. Took it to Thailand this week and took plastic off the head on Monday morning at golf. No damage after transport.

Note driver was transported on Jetstar, in 2 cardboard boxes, with head protected with bubble wrap inside a golf travel bag.

Note I've been struggling with Taylormade M1 driver for 8 years and this new driver was the cure. My golf this week has been awful. Driving far worse than I had with M1. I've topped the drives quit a few times. That's my body struggling. One of the tops the driver impact with ground was 12+ inches in front of ball but the ball still went 100 or so yards off tee. How can you be so far out with golf swing? I've been playing since 1978 so not a newbie.

Yesterday on about 11th hole I noticed a scratch on the head of driver. There's a couple of areas where paint has come off but there was another scratch about an inch long. I was trying to convince myself it was just paint coming off.

By the 18th hole driver was awful. Looked again and not only a scratch but the driver head looks like it has a crease in it to go with the crack. Once these driver heads are damaged they get worse.

Hoping Cleveland replace the driver. AUD525. I'm not sure topping the ball can be classed as misuse but driver has to be stronger and able to take more.
