Actually, I have got one seat swap thingies happened to me. Not in a flight though, in a movie theatre. I had booked a particular seat for me and +1. Show up and another family were on our seats. I showed my tickets and told them that they are in my seat. The father goes "everyone here sits on different seats, you can choose any seat you want". I politely, but sternly said, "I want my seat please" and he wouldn't budge. Then the mother realised that I wasn't going to give up my seats and they moved to their original seats.

Their original seats were at the corner of the row and mine was bang in the middle. This movie was an action movie and sitting in the middle, top row, *supposedly* gives the best viewing experience, which is why I choose those seats. And I did not give up ...

After the movie, the mother and few of her friends were making fun of me how I wanted my seat etc ... But the thing was they were making fun of me in one of the languages that I speak ... so I politely replied in the same language and said that "many people here in AU speak more than one language. If I were you, I'd be very cautious of what I say about others in public" and I walked away ... should've seen the look on their faces!

Its not always possible though. We booked some 10 months out for a trip last year. A few weeks out, flights cancelled and we were moved to a new flight. No set of three seats together for the four of us (incl lap infant). We had to ask on board for someone to swap because its much easier to manage two toddlers when you're all sitting together (and to be honest, no one wants to sit with someones elses little kids).

I totally get your need to sit together. But you would have asked nicely and it would be apparent to all there was a need, not just a want. I don't think either may have applied in the situation outlined.

The last time I was at SYD INT to DOM, the queue was extending to the doors of INT. So there was a QF staff who walked down the queue and kept asking if anyone with tighter connections to come forward ... guess that is stopped now!

My most amusing problems with the change of seat allocation was on QR in J. Before the flight they tried at least twice to move our 'single' seats in J to side by side ones. I kept moving them back. Even at check-in they offered to change our seats so we could sit alongside each other. We both rejected the offer with horror. After over 40 years of marriage and about to commence a 5 week trip to non-English speaking countries where we would be basically together 24 hours a day a nice little bit of 'alone-time' was what we wanted.

When your energy provider gives you a heads up that your prices are increasing so you move to a new plan. However they didn't tell you that plan was going 22 days after you started and you were defaulted back to the three tier pricing for over two months .
Actually ok with the new price system , we were expecting it. However going odd a flat 24 hour rate to the three tier was unpleasant. We have to run some household things for husband all the time, but loads of machines could have been set for 10 pm.

Oh that reminds me; I hate it when you call your energy provider informing them that you are going to switch to someone else and then agent says, 'well I can put you on a better rate, would you like me to do that?'

Is this seat squatting phenomenon a common experience? In decades of flying I’ve had it happen only twice when I was as certain as I could be that there was no genuine mistake i.e. offender was trying it on to snare a better seat. From my highly scientific study (n=2) the common factors seem to be: solo male aged 25-35; boards v early; spreads possessions around seat pockets/shelves to make it as awkward as possible to insist on him vacating; and a poor show of affecting surprise when told he’s in the wrong seat. Like you, @Ade, my approach to this is 'polite but stern', which works of course but it's still unpleasant when you know (and the other party knows you know) what was actually going on.

Our IT person whinging that one of our computers wasn't set up properly from the get go, we had to transition to another hosting platform because the one we were paying them for was hacked and our files held for ransom (but completely messed up so not readable anyway and we lost them) and then he lectures me that he needs to insist on an organised approach to an issue one of us was having. Not me.

Dude, it was your company who sets up all our computers from brand new, we are only using this platform because you got hacked and you insist on us pulling our socks up!

Needless to say I set him straight.

Honestly, not common for me ... I have had seat squatting (unknowingly) on a plane, happened to me, twice. Both times it was senior citizens who simply sat on the row before/after ... so genuine mistake ... But in places like a cinema theatre, happens frequently.

Quite possibly but then if rather upset when asked to move to correct seat with the excuse but I wanted to sit there because abc then maybe not a mistake.

Agreed. In my case the senior citizens apologised and said that they thought they were on the right seat. I mean, you could sense that they were genuine ...

He dropped the keys off today and I said did you wash the airfryer while you were and he said that's my airfryer (exactly the same as mine) so spent all that time cleaning it and it wasn't mine FFS

Auditor-General Brendan Worrall’s report noted a “large supply” of rapid tests amassed on behalf of other government agencies was based on the expectation they would be needed by all students and teachers.
However, a shift in the government’s eventual 2022 back-to-school strategy at the height of the state’s first wave meant tests were required only for teachers and students who developed symptoms.

“The department increased the amount it expected to lose from obsolete inventory to $267.3 million (from $44.9 million in 2020–21),” the audit office report stated.
“This included an allowance of $195 million for obsolete RATs [rapid antigen tests]. This was because the current expiry dates of RATs ranged between January 2023 and June 2024 and the department had seen a significant reduction in demand.”
