What cheeses me off

I thought there was a period of 'leave' granted after a long trial. I'd be very peeved. Never served on one and don't want to. Surely she can be excused.
3yrs is the exemption period so she is just outside. She will not be doing it again as I reckon I have 3 or 4 avenues to have her removed. Last time her employer did not pay her any wages and wanted her to come in to work to do a couple of hours (5-7) each night. She did not as we had a minor outrage at the suggestion and she was exhausted by the time she got home (and it was a high security case). So we were impacted finacially by the lack of income for the period for 6 weeks.

They have to do this much better financially for jurors and shame on her employer.

When your aircraft changes and you again select non bulkhead seats (which I loathe) only to go in a couple of weeks later and - you are back in a bulkhead seat again. And no other choices. At least it's still on the potential correct side to see Mt Fuji. JAL I am looking at you! MrP seat stuck. Some might like 1A. I don't.
Complimentary bulkhead seats? How do you score those? I'd take them in a heartbeat to avoid chronic recliners.

And yes I do realise you mean up front.

WCMO. MrsP received a Juror notification yesterday. She last completed jury service in 2021 on a case that lasted 6 weeks.
I think she has exceeded all expectations.

I have escaped at least three times.

1. I had moved interstate - cancelled - not in jurisdiction
2. I was overseas - deferred for another time
3. I produced non-refundable airline tickets and cruise bookings - deferred indefinitely

I think now I'm no longer on the call-up list 🤔 too many previous attempts and past a magic age barrier ?

My understanding in NSW is that if you defer the AG's Dept reinstate you to the current Juror list and you will receive another "invitation".

I got called up last month/travel during the timeline meant its a nonstarter and was excluded (for 12 months). Hopefully if I ever had to do it I would be challenged/excluded as having specialist medicolegal expertise would not be welcome

I used to be a police officer and spent time in the prosecution section. . Maybe I could say upfront that the police never go to trial unless the offender is guilty 😁

I've been called up a few times for the Jury and I think I've asked to be removed but they won't do it.

Last time was a few years back and as Im now in Brisbane Im not going back to Sydney to serve on jury. The stupidity was they wanted letter from my employer that I was needed at work. Stupidity.

For what it's worth, I cannot sit still. I'm in a lot of pain and discomfort and have to constantly keep moving. Asking me to sit on a jury is a dumb idea. I will not do it even if they paid handsomely.

You will never get paid handsomely to be on a jury

Luckily I'm not in NSW.

Being curious I just looked up the QLD rules - 70+ not eligible unless you volunteer 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏

(b) Persons aged 70 years and over are not qualified to undertake jury service unless they elect to do so.

If your official residence is now QLD (as I think it is), then all you should need is a doctor's certificate explaining the situation

(a) You can be excused from jury service permanently if you have medical reasons, such as illness or disability. You’ll need to provide a medical certificate that states you must be permanently excused.

Have you not changed your driver licence and electoral address? There can be fines if you don’t change your licence address after an extended period.

I’m pretty sure that’s grounds for a permanent exclusion from the list? If you do get called you can write that as your reason to be excused. I believe that’s still the case in Victoria, and probably for other jurisdictions as well.

Not in NSW except if in the past 3 yrs. I'll post a photo of the list FYI.
@Pushka If you were a Crown Prosecutor you'd be excluded, or if you have access to information about inmates and detainees. Also if you have been a guest of the crown, or a disqualified driver. Not sure how that might affect your bias.

I was once called for Juror service
I could have used the "medical practitioner" excuse but I once used the "have a prebooked holiday" excuse

As it turned out I had a booking to the USA that covers the period in question🎉🎆

I think some AFF contributors here will have flights booked that means their change of a JS callup is extremely low.

@JohnK all you need is a Dr letter to say you are ineligible due to chronic pain which makes it impossible for you to sit in a chair for long periods - they will take you off the roll.

2 yrs back I used a doctors letter to say my health precluded me. Efforts to rope me in in the early eighties were thwarted by claiming exemption under the Navigation Act.
