What cheeses me off

Have been asked to vacate after 6 years and have 4 months to do it.

I've been looking at a few places and one thing is clear. Rent in Brisbane does not reflect the state of our economy. How did we allow overseas markets to influence our rents?

We rent out our 2 bedroom with lock up garage apartments in Sydney between $350-$400 week. These are quite old and rent remains low due to the flooding of apartments on and around Canterbury Road.

Looking at same old apartments around Brisbane and you need around $600-$800 week. That is ridiculous.

I saw a decent looking one for $435/week and note on the listing that it's going up to $550/week? How the f...? How do you justify that type of increase? People are paying it because there is no alternative.

I wish I could go back to Sydney and live in my apartment but we want daughter to stay here and finish learning sign language. Plus daughter does not want to leave until she finishes grade 6.

Stress.

WCMO. I must be really stupid. Yesterday I receive a reminder for an endodontist appointment which I dutifully acknowledge. Today I trek down to Chatswood on the train and to the endo rooms. When I book in the reseptionist informs me the appointment is next Friday. "So why did you send me the reminder yesterday? Don't you think 8 days is a bit early and misinforms patients? " Patients like it early she says.
I walk out to the lifts and a young woman tells me she has done the exact same thing and is annoyed because she had to take half a day off work to attend. Maybe I am not so stupid after all.

Centrelink/Services Australia. Handling the affairs of a family member that passed 2 months ago. Nursing home advised CL the day after. Pension still going into previous bank account. Beginning of week queued up and handed all relevant paperwork to advise of death and request a statement as executor. Was told would be uploaded in a few minutes and would receive a call later that day to advise status.

Crickets!!!!!

Queued up again today with same paperwork.

"Oh it was half done but not completed properly".

Please complete it while I wait.

"I've completed it online now".

The nursing home said they already advised you but payments are still being made?

"Oh I can see that advice, but nobody actioned it".

So how much has been overpaid and how do I settle it.

"Oh now I've completed your docs it will go to the debt collection team queue"

So how long will that take?

"They are off site team, we have no visibility, no idea how big the queue is or how long they take"

So what happens now?

"Sit and wait for a demand notice for repayment via snail mail sometime when somebody gets round to it"

They can request it back from the bank if the funds are still there .

The bank account is now closed and funds released to executor (me)

I can't distribute to beneficiaries until I determine the debt.
Hopefully they will be quick at raising the overpayment . Not excusing but death actions usually were quickly done to avoid debts and situations like this. Not sure if they have to get a rebuttal from the bank first

The Building Soc/bank froze the account from withdrawals immediately but kept accepting deposits until I finally coerced them to close the account and stop any more transactions. That was whole other PITA dealing with the Building Society.

My most annoying one was trying to work out which term deposits dad had. Informed DVA , ANZ and a few others by end of May. All sorted everything in mum's accounts. Then mid July or so another letter from ANZ advising of yet another tem deposit 🤦

It's so much easier these days and with the software linking to ato the salary entries are pre populated.

Lots of people have mentally banked the supersized gains over the last year or so.

Current position is about average for super growth over last 15 years

Given that it's average it may (or may not) fall further

So there's been discussion that unrealised capital gains will be taxed and super won't be exempt. Minefield.

IMHO Don’t panic. Have another Guinness and just chill.
Looked at ours today, no significant change. (ART)
Amusing hack of super funds a week ago just been revealed by the funds.
I'm not in Belfast any more - I have to try all the Cornish gins and rums (and believe me there are a lot)
