What do you do to save Hotel laundry charges?

Re rotating the underwear and going commando, I find that there are some big issues to tackle.

Therefore, I prefer to wash every day or two with fast drying (silk) boxers. T shirts/singlets and socks are easy enough to wash every day or two and just occasionally you find a hotel with a self service washing machine you can use.

I'll stretch shirts and pants as long as possible before I get them cleaned. Generally I take the hit and stump up for laundry at the hotel. If there's a guest laundry I'll also head there and do a load.

I'm also not adverse to the socks and scruds in the bath and then turn the room into one big clothesline, I always pack 5m or so of nylon string in my suitcase so I can do some smalls.

Word to wise: don't think you can get a wash cycle from a spa bath when its full of undies and socks. I turned on the spa at a hotel in Miami when it was full of dirty scruds, little did I realise I'd only quarter filled the bath with water and hadn't covered all the jets, and when the jets turned on.....WOOSH! There was dirty water everywhere! Thee roof, floor, walls, I couldn't have done a better job!

Suffice to say I got changed, called housekeeping and requested service, left a nice tip and "Sorry!" on piece of paper in the bathroom, and hit the bar for a good hour or so!

I once left a pair of trousers at a well known hotel in Bangkok. Remembered after I left, and actually was staying there about a week later. Didn't contact them about it, but asked when I checked in again. A phonecall was made, and my trousers were delivered to my room ... Washed, pressed and it was completely free!

I had some clothes laundered at the IC Seoul last month and one if my sweaters had a small ( ahem) ventilation hole in the underarm area  The sweater appeared back sans ventilation area. Probably the first time I've received value for money from hotel laundry ;)

A tip I picked up in my travels is I don't wring my clothes out and just smooth them out on an inflatable hanger and let them drip dry they tend to have fewer creases. If by chance the clothes are still damp in the morning I just dry them with the hair dryer and they dry very quickly (usually within a few minutes).

I don't do jetlag.

A good girlfriend usually solves the need to pay for laundry charges.

But if you are not careful that method could end up costing way more than originally planned....

Same for me!

Tip: Never, never, never try to use your spa bath as a washing machine. It looks like a washing machine: with water and soap/bubbles agitating away. Don't be tempted!

Polo shirts save on ironing.
In Asia, I generally find laundry costs are reasonable. Europe is IMHO poisonous , can't recall what the US is like , its been a while since I was there.

Za Za Gabor claimed she was a good housekeeper - everytime she got a divorce she kept the house.
