What else is burning members about recent "enhancements" to QFF?

Does anyone actually get priority boarding on domestic flights? I have never had it.

Since I got velocity gold, every single time I fly with DJ.

There have been some half hearted attempts by QF at SYD T3. But it is so all encompassing, J/WP/SG/OWE/OWS/kids/assistance, as to be meaningless. But I usually leave the lounge early and get priority boarding that way.

Recently did a BNE-SYD vv and I noted priority boarding call for multiple flights, but noticed it's basically at commencement of boarding, and people were already lining up anyway, and no-one got knocked back as far as I can tell.

Frankly, if it's not enforced, it's pointless and they shouldnt bother. I guess they think by announcing it, they've "offered" it.

.....

The only time I can recall them knocking back those with low seat numbers when they had called the rear seats was at Hobart Airport on a QF flight to Melbourne, but I assume this was because they were still loading the galley near the front stairway while the rear passengers could use the rear steps from the tarmac.

What I hate is when they call say rows 15 to 29 then don't call the front until most of the front passengers have already boarded anyway. It only encourages passengers with front seats to disregard the call while many would arrive at the gate, see a long line and not hear the call for rear seat passengers anyway.

I only like to board first as I usually select a window seat, and like to find locker space near my seat for my small cabin bag. It always seems to be that the last idiot to board has the largest oversize bag. I think there would be less delays and a better experience if QF enforced the cabin baggage restrictions better.

Just completed MEL-BNE on a 73H. Not even an attempt at priority boarding. :-|

Care to comment on when priority boarding will be implemented Red Roo?

I just boarded a 767 SYD-MEL. The queue must have been 60 metres long. One queue only.

From what I can see (I've been a little absent from here of late) Red Roo has gone underground again.

What i'd like, although I can see certain extremities freezing over before it happens, is some kind of forum for us FF'ers to voice our grievances, in person, to QF Management, in a civilised conversation.

Other airlines have done it thru Flyertalk overseas and it's been a good insight for both airlines and frequent flyers alike.

Why not arrange something in say MEL/SYD/BNE/PER for us to talk to people and understand the complexities of running a good FF program whilst allowing them to hear why we are so upset at the constant devaluation of the program?

Heck even MEL and SYD would probably suffice. Most our contingency here seems to be east-coast based, and the majority of us would be happy to fly to such an event.

What do you say Red Roo? Am I likely to see porcines mid-air before this would happen?

I actually think priority boarding should be for the people who aren't regular flyers. I much prefer to step on last and click by belt buckle as they back away form the gate and not site there waiting while people push past with bags and jackets.
Could not agree more.

There is no way I want to be one of the first to board and sit on the aircraft waiting for the stragglers to board. And what happens when the flight is delayed further once everyone is onboard? More anxiety.

No thanks....

Okay here's a good news story...

QF768 MEL-PER yesterday.

The FA heading up the main cabin was strolling around with the manifest whispering in paxs' ears.

My turn came around- greeted by name and asked if I would like a set of noise cancelling headphones. I declined as have my own. Was asked if there was anything else I would like- there wasn't.

Having read other threads on AFF, I enquired of Lillian whether this was something 'new', something that Qantas had recently reminded staff about, or something that she did specifically.

She replied with "we're all supposed to do this" and "it's more likely on East/West trips, as there is more time compared with shorter flights".

I let her know that this was the first time in 24 months it had ever happened for me East/West (about 30 return trips)- she was surprised.

I'll feed this good performance back to QF- whilst another example of consistent inconsistency, the personal attention gave me a warm fuzzy feeling, and I can only imagine the goodwill a simple act such as this would generate for QF if it, along with other such matters raised in this thread, were implemented (and dare I say, audited!)

So priority boarding should become priority overhead space, as getting on last generally means there is none.

What they are supposed to do and what they actually do are two different things.

One day QF is actually going to read the free feedback provided on websites such as AFF.

Could not care about either. I know some people want priority boarding and overhead bin space but I do not want to carry extra things around from check-in to lounge and then the gate. The less the better.

Last to board the 767 SYD-BNE lflight ast night and had no problems finding space in the overhead bins in business class. There was plenty of space in the hold as well for my luggage and carry-on bag.

767's do have more overhead space per passenger than other aircraft..

Great to hear that this actually happens. A little disheartening to hear that it's actually a policy which is rarely followed. I don't do east/west very often so unless someone cracks the whip at QF I guess I will never get to experience it.

It's a shame really. CX/KA do an absolutely amazing job of looking after their elites.

Well mine is a whinge but was made (almost) good.

had pre-selected 25B on the 767 for last nights flight. Didn't get to OLCI as i was flat out so went straight to the J lounge and collected my boarding pass. no issue til I boarded the plane and I discovered it was subbed for 737-400, so now i was in the worst possible seat in the plane. Middle seat and the LAST row. I shook my head as i boarded and spoke to the cabin manager about it. he thought there was only 24 rows and went to check. Alas there was 25. I took my seat and a few minutes later a crew member came up and said they had found a seat. ok it was still a middle seat but i was up to Row 8.

OK I should have doubled checked my seat selection or made time to OCLI, but i guess i wasn't expecting an aircraft sub!

note to qantas. If you sub an aircraft, let your higher tiered members know via email or something. then we can re-select better seats.

I'd love to see them do this for CBR flights. Can't see it happening though, especially around Parliamentary Sitting weeks. Just imagine, by the time the CSM whispers into every WP on a CBR/SYD flight, they would have landed into SYD ;)

Surely it’d be easier to make an announcement highlighting those that the following message does not apply to :p

I fly east/west frequently and I can count on one hand the number of times I've been greeted. And I'd probably have at least four fingers left over!

Totally agree.

I am so paranoid these days if I don't get a chance to use OLCI before the flight then I will check the type of aircraft and seat at check-in.

Why is the QFF program cough?

I don't really want to defend Qantas however QFF is actually one of the better FF programs in the world for various reasons least of which are
- reasonably easy to get status
- most, if not all, airfares earn status and points
- sure earn/burn may not be fantastic but it is still OK and there is plenty of value to be found in various awards and upgrades

By comparison try doing the same on SQ, TG, BA, AA, CX, EK just to name a few. The choice is easy for me as most of my points come from flying.
