What I ate today - the food thread

Probably an ideal solution for the busy empty nesters or family. And I’m guessing much less wastage. However, I enjoy my daily jaunt to the market to buy what looks good on the day. Doing a family Roast (Pork Belly) today. I think I have finally found a full proof recipe which gives me perfect crackling each time....... Fingers crossed.

Crackling on the roast - one of the most frustrating things out there to master consistently...

Good luck!

Crackling is one thing I seem to do well. Cakes on the other hand - a mess. Other than pavlova I stick to savoury.

No. I’ve been buying Raffles Hotel China from Raffles Hotel in Singapore every visit for years and recently from the Royal Doulton outlet stores since they changed to a new design.

I also have beautiful embroidered linen from Raffles Hotel......and Yes, I bought it all

The plate is a large oval carving dish. We tried to buy more crockery from the Raffles shop, but mostly ended up with this and some Cups and saucers.

A large oval dish has many uses. Very classy.

Have another look in the cupboards. We have quite a collection!

Dropped everything today and went for a drive in the hills near Medellin, Colombia.

This is delicious - it is a ripe plantain (banana) that has been slow-roasted over charcoal, to caramelize it. It is then given a spread of butter, and then topped with a fresh cheese. Cost me a whopping 75 cents at a little place on a road in nowhereland.

Would be great anywhere, but eating it with that view - priceless!! :)
