What I ate today - the food thread

Today’s lunch at Amano in AKL. Very good Italian. We started with chargrilled octopus and cucumber, followed by mains of cray fish tortellini and lamb with zucchini accompanied by a side of beans. Just delicious.

Have regularly stopped by their bakery to grab a savoury snack - but yet to eat at the restaurant. Will rectify that before too long!

A place called Laneway Greens in Flinders Lane. This was the cape grim beef with seasonal vegetables and a side of roasted eggplant. You won't get lunch for less than $15 but their meals are all quite healthy plus they try and source locally.

Thanks, I'll keep that in mind if I need lunch in the city ever (which doesn't happen often)

Since my retirement I have done most of the cooking at home, but yesterday we were having some friends over and my wife decided that she would go all out and make a Malaysian meal.

(You may note the "curry stains" on the linen tablecloth but these are "historic" ones which can't be removed without damaging it. This tablecloth is at least 80 years old and is embossed with the logo of the Straits Shipping Company (Singapore), 1890 - 1989, which used to run tramp cargo and pax ships around the S.E. Asian region. Older Perth locals will remember the "Centaur" which used to do the Perth - Singapore run. The Australian Hospital Ship AHS Centaur, torpedoed off Queensland in WW2 was also one of their vessels. My wife's family were associated with the company for about 70 years and we have a few artifacts from that association. )

Gado Gado Salad - with the peanut sauce next to it. The crushed peanut topping is just out of view.

Ah - I sailed on the Centaur in 1982 on my way to Europe - just remembering about in another thread on why people wouldn't cruise

@RooFlyer there's research suggesting that diet sodas actually cause more weight gain than the regular version
Yeah, I don't normally touch 'em, diet variety or not, but it had been a hot day walking about and I just needed the cold fizz :)

Soda water with a twist of lime is my usual beverage right now.
