Post about what you have eaten today/recently that was memorable! For better or for worse! Anything food related - let's go!

Hello everyone!

Other than my obvious love of travelling, especially flying, and enjoyment of wine and other beverages, I have a passion for the part that food plays in our lives. Eating is something we all do everyday, and it is in my opinion a wonderful part of enjoying each day.

I am not a "foodie" or specialist in high-end cuisine, but rather I just thoroughly enjoy eating nice food when I am hungry. I love simple things, but at the same time I love meals prepared with great care and passion.

Flight meals challenge that love on occasions, but it is all part of the world of eating. As is being in an isolated (or at least unfamiliar) part of the planet where you are just happy to find something that doesn't make you cringe.

I personally would enjoy if members could share photos (with comments) of anything they ate that was out of the ordinary, simply delicious, appalling, or just for whatever reason made them think it was noteworthy.

In a similar idea to the "off topic" thread, I don't want any rules about what is on topic - anything food related is relevant. This is all about eating. Hopefully, if some feel inclined to complain about a particularly dreadful airborne meal (and I am sure I could do that from time to time), that will be drowned out by the positive images of great meals or hunger-destroying salvation :)

Floor is open......

3 Spain.jpg

To kick this off, this photo is taken in the Iberia lounge in Madrid - I love simple but good bread, and some salmon etc to go on it is perfect. I always remember this photo when I am in ****sville and cannot find something decent to eat :)

4 Ghana.jpg

A totally different experience - I think it was the same trip - Ghana. Due to travelling with no local language skills, but having to get out to the bush, I was hungry quite a bit. This photo is of a roadside lunch which I understand to be very typical of the zone - a spicy, peanutoil laden liquidy "soup" with a chunk of meat, and some rice or some other starchy item. The challenge there is all this you have to eat using your fingers!! No cutlery, not even chopsticks. It was indeed a challenge, but it was sensational. Not just due to my hunger.

2 Colombia.jpg

And yet again different, something totally familiar to me - A typical Colombian lunch. I was very proud as I cooked this myself. They love deep-fried pork belly here. They also don't mind chips. The only real divergence from true Colombian cuisine is that I made the salad portion way too big :)

Great thread and thanks for starting - brunch yesterday avocado and mint on sourdough - while I was waiting they mistakenly bought me the eggy crumpets with bacon and maple sauce that I didn't notice on the menu (damn it was for the next table) so might go back next week for that

I like to record interesting meals and loved Evernote food but haven't been able to find a good replacement for it

Good avocado + good bread is heaven :) Avocado is one of those things that when good, is just perfect. I grew up in Chile eating mashed avocado with oil and salt and lemon juice - smeared sparingly on bread - one of the few things I could eat every day of my life forever.

Ribs & Rumps for me so just imagine lots of of pork ribs (for me) and a slab of angus rump (for hubby) on a plate.

They don't do a lot for presentation.

I don't have a photo, as just saw this thread.

However, yesterday I ate something that I've never had before.....

It was a vanilla cronut....I think that's what it's called
A cross between a croissant and a donut.
OMG. It was soooo good.

Must go back to Kitty Burns in Melbourne for another one soon....and then I'll take a photo.
Need to getting running to burn it off though...haha

TQ

Choco brekky.jpg

Breakfast in Choco province, Colombia. This is a very wet and hot jungle region. Scambled eggs with "patacones" - these latter are deep fried plaintain bananas. I actually really enjoy them but wish there was decent bread instead. Would have been so much better if the place was influenced by the French rather than the Spaniards :(

Accompanying it, but only partially visible, is a very traditional local drink - Gatorade (aka Powerade, etc) :)

Not a fan of octupus, chorizos are very tasty, but I absolutely adore both kipfler potatoes and jalapenos :)

BTW that is a great and unique combo - I wonder what a sommelier would suggest to go with it?

While lunch was rather mediocre Korean, last night's superb spaghetti amatriciana is keeping me happy. One of the kings of the pasta world. And so simple.

No picture this time!
