What is a Meal in a QP or VA lounge?

Re: The totally off-topic thread

Well .... they used to!

Hot egg dish with bacon or sausage, tomato etc. was the norm for an 8am flight between MEL and SYD ... of course that was a little while ago ... ;)

It was the same on the Ansett 767 that I used to take each month SYD-BNE...definitely some time ago

Cost of travel used to be higher. People want low fares and also a full meal, not reasonable IMO. Yogurt and muffin is more then some full service international carriers offer on short flights!

Most recent hot food experience was in around 5 years ago!

Alright - it was an egg and bacon muffin wrapped in foil handed over with a paper napkin ... 7am flight SYD-MEL :p ...

Indeed, even had a great cooked breakfast ROK-BNE once on that flying box think.

My flight was in the early-90s but it must have been cheap because I was a relatively poor uni student at the time. I believe I also got a BNE-CNS return fare for something like $250 around the same time.

Ok, those I remember (so is my waistline :p).
I thought you were talking about hot breakfast like the one served on east-west coast flights, which is perfectly reasonable for a mid-haul but a bit of luxury for shot-haul flights IMO.
Anyway, it's all a bit off topic I think. Let's debate about where the lettuce is more fresh, QF or VA lounge? :D

Boomy,
It sounds like you work for Qantas!!!!!!!!!!!!! Let’s get off Breakfast as it is obvious that you can't be swayed. What about the average meals supplied at other meal times? (and by the way, I have been travelling on Qantas since they purchased TAA & entered the domestic travel business a very long time ago).

LOL
Not really, just spending too much time on their planes :)

Lunch time in Y I recently had Pesto Chicken & Mozzarella Toastie. I thought it was a nice hot snack and reasonable offer for a short flight.
Dinner time in Y I recently had Pasta or some Chicken & Rice hot meals. Not bad for a short flight and much better many dinners I had in Y on other long-haul carriers.
I also think the little bottles of wine and the premium beer on offer are of a good standard for Y class.
The only thing I really dislike onboard is the coffee.
I understand that food used to be better years ago but also travel used to be less affordable. Many things have changed since the days you could play mini-golf in the First Class cabin :)

To bring this back on topic to lounge food. VA had a very good pie and mushy peas last night. Very similar to my avatar.

It seems we associate flying with eating. Food service on short sectors such as CBR-SYD is simply indulgence. QF pub for is a snack not main meal material. It amazes me to watch the feeding frenzy when the party pies come out! Perhaps we should ask Alan J to install exercise bikes as an alternative to buffet fare.

Or some full service international carriers on longer flights. QF LHR-DXB, I received a cup of OJ and a muffin.

O O OMG. I have just worked out what your avatar is. I thought it was something completely different. A conversation for when next our paths cross.

I must admit I had to have a real close look before I worked it out

I thought it was something like the top of the head of a donkey or an cough with big ears wearing some sort of hat.

On Sunday the BNE QP had lasagne and a couscous dish alongside the usual. The J lounge had bangers and mash. But the VA lounge on Friday only had sangas and salad...

Some of the comments in this thread have been less than kind about the food in lounges in airports in Europe. Obviously, one ‘would-be’ traveler was quite happy with the fare on offer in Lufthanza’s Frankfurt lounge ('would-be is the key word here!). Copy this into your browser:
