What is a Meal in a QP or VA lounge?

Re: First time AA flyer

This post from another thread I find interesting:
Thread necromancy!

Just want to call out the food in SYD on Friday evening: they had mini ciabatta rolls, steaming hot sliced roast beef in gravy, and mustard, to let you make up your own hot beef rolls.

GOOD LORD it was delicious. Maybe I was just excited because it wasn't those bloody hot dogs again, but, seriously... the meat was moist and juicy, the rolls were yum, it was great. And obviously everyone agreed; first time I've seen an actual serious queue for the food in VA SYD (about 10-12 people lined up the whole time).

If anyone from VA is reading this: MORE LIKE THAT PLEASE. (And, you know, NOT SO MUCH WITH THE HOT DOGS.)

I doesn't need to my young paduan.

Please let me know the next time you see a choice of ham and salami in the VA lounge. ;)

Only the next time? Or will last Thursday 3 July do, not to mention at least the previous half dozen times I flew with VA before that.

Well there you go. VA has gone up market and I missed it.

They've had two types of meat for at least 6 months. Hard to not notice.

Do you need to say something about the other selection and the lack of ham and salami?

The Qantas Lounge? Not good enough if they can't have a choice of ham and salami.

And I did apologise for missing the fact Virgin has had 2 choices for at least 6 months. I am not a fan of toasted sandwiches but I do like to nibble on cold meat and some salad items so I should have noticed.

...
I have the salami from either, but I have given up on the generic high water content "ham" served by both in the VA and QP lounges.

I do like the thought of hot roast beef rolls and gravy as was noted up thread ...

I haven't noticed. The ham has tasted quite nice the past couple of weeks. Perhaps I am hungrier. ;)

No pressure, but are we going to get the answer to this weeks "guess the buffet" quiz? When will next week's challenge be posted? Is there any truth to the rumour that Baby John Burgess is filming a pilot of "Which bain-marie?" for channel ten?

Of course these questions aren't as important as distinguishing which completely interchangeable australian domestic lounge food is best, but I still demand answers! :)

There are no answers, what this this thread has done is merely illustrate that there generally is little difference between QP and VA lounge food catering these days.

Check the photos in post 81 ...

I think the point of the request was to find out which post #81 photo belonged to which lounge.

Does it matter if one can't tell from looking at the pictures? ;)

That was exactly my point, and the reason I didn't specifically identify which was which.

For burrco's benefit, the top one is VA SYD, the bottom one is QF MEL.

Next week's quiz will be to identify the debris captured between the seat cushion and side of the chair to determine which lounge it's from and whether it's still edible .....

I recognized the "ice caves of Hoth" interior scheme over the "Funeral Director marble" but medhead's point remains there isn't usually much difference or indeed variation in either one from day to day. Someone else made the point that if they are lounges for frequent flyers - would it kill them to have a little more variety?

You can't please everyone, no matter what you do. Make some changes, soon people will get used to them and demand more.
Compared to other domestic lounges overseas I think we are very lucky here in Australia in terms of quality and variety.

Still struggling with this thread, really like trying to compare bread rolls between QF and VA!!!! Which one is fresher or more sesame seeds!!!! As long as the beer, and good beer at that, is cold that is enough! Sometimes the best food is outside the lounge or even customs. Next time in KUL try Kopi time in the departure hall, a great laksa. And speaking of Laksa's, in HKG a great one just near the QF First lounge. I will often leave the first lounge of QF or CX just to have a great feed + a few ales.....

The point of the thread should be obvious. There is no practical difference between the food in the Qantas and virgin domestic lounges. Despite the lack of differentiation, some people claim virgin have childish rubbish for food, and Qantas are outstanding.

Maybe obvious to some, have not flown VA for just on 8 years and dont want too. After the demise of AN always thought VA was the new JQ. Sorry missed the point of the thread......

VA has changed, don't you know. And QF has changed (negatively) to match VA.

Thats if you assuming I fly local! 80 flights this year so far, about 6 local. So im not into comparing bread rolls in local lounges......
