What is a Meal in a QP or VA lounge?

Cauliflower macaroni cheese in the BNE Qantas lounge last night.

Delicious. One of the best tasting meals I have had in the Qantas lounge for a long time. Should have had a second plate.

TBH that sounds like something that would go with a meal, as opposed to being a meal in itself.

Old fashioned tastes there, no appeal to me but each to their own!

Gee unlike medhead to be insistent that someone is wrong. :)

Despite appearances I did not start this thread. You'll notice the issue I have is the double standards that says the same food item is excellent if it's present by Qantas, and very simple if present by virgin. My positions is not about classifying something as a meal or otherwise, despite the thread title which was created by someone else. But perhaps you're right, perhaps I should just accept such blatant double standards.

I took a photo of the meal offerings in the MEL QP from last Friday.

I'll be in the SYD VA Lounge this Friday at the same time and will take a photo of the meal offerings.

I'll post both on here. Feel free to comment.

That would indeed depend on your definition of a meal.

I am not into 3 course meals with all the trimmings. I am not into entrees, certainly not into dessert and not a great fan of sides for a main either.

So a plate of spaghetti bolognaise, cauliflower macaroni cheese, braised steak etc is a meal for me. I also prefer to eat standing up.

Just missed the hot roast beef baguette. That'll teach me for arriving in the lounge at 6:30, still one needs to get to the other lounge by 4:30pm to get the special roll. Had to content myself with a fresh potato salad baguette and butter chicken instead.

Yet I'm sure this will be classified at childish rubbish. If only there was a grown up antipasto plate.....

Sounds just fine to me .... but then again, I'm not a foodie ;) Comfort food is where it's at for me.

There was vegetable korma and cous cous in the QP MEL yesterday. In the JL they were serving rice with chicken green curry and some kind of salad (that was not part of the usual cold buffet offering)

Roast beef roll. Yum :)

I'mm sensing a little tension between the QF and VA people here. Perhaps some mediation would be helpful. We could all hold hands and share things we like about each other...?

In reality it could be way worse, we could be comparing the 'food' offerings in American domestic lounges. In my experience, none of the airlines there do it well and usually the lounge is grubby to boot. And sometimes there's no booze or you only get a single voucher. Boo.

As a random aside, hubby and I are usually QF domestic travellers but we flew VA PER-SYD return in Y over the Easter long weekend. First VA flight in about 10 years. Was pleasantly surprised with the aircraft, entertainment system, food and service [cue the abuse]. Yay VA.

Just wait until you get XFA/B;)

In the SYD VA Lounge now and they have staff circulating with a platter of vegetable samosas and mint yogurt dipping sauce.

Tasty too!

Just what planet do they think they are on? Ostensible flair in a VA lounge will never beat the solid quality of QF fare. That sort of ¨meal¨ would be more appropriate at Rio´s Carnivale. Think Priscilla Queen of the Desert.

Given Qantas serve nothing at 2pm I somehow doubt your claim. Since it was being served at 2pm it clearly wasn't supposed to be a meal but finger food.

its simple mate. Spirits in the qp mean people are happy. Lack of spirits in virgin mean they nitpick. Enough said.

Spirits aren't a meal. In the 100s of Qantas domestic flights I've taken over the last few years I've have spirits on about 4 occasions.

Now if you read the thread carefully you'll see that it is the Qantas flyers who aren't happy. The Qantas fanbois are the one with all the complaints, after all.
