Re: The totally off-topic thread

Hmm, not sure who set up the thread, but it is not limited to lounge food it also applies to on board meals. Note the comment about J meal on Virgin.

That comment can be considered off topic, although it has some minor relevance.

Re: The totally off-topic thread

Hot dogs are my least favourite food. What exactly is in those awful red 'sausages'?
I'd rather a toasted sandwich instead ;). At least I can choose my own fillings.

Re: The totally off-topic thread

I'd be happy with scrambled eggs at breakfast. And a hot dish for dinner that isn't lukewarm soups or a sandwich.

At least there's a way to go before either carrier gets to AA-level! Ie the food offering consist of all you can eat rice snacks!

I agree. Definitely not lounge food on any carrier.

Was that before or after management changes, as a "recent" datapoint versus one that is irrelevant, last Wednesday in SYD there was one hot dish of beef dog food (what it looked like) and the toasters. The soup was cream of celery and the plate of the day was cheese.

Today in the SYD Business lounge.

Pork ragu, spinach and cheese triangles and party pies.

JohnK, you keep putting up examples of food in the QF J lounges and comparing it to the VA lounges.

This is not an equal comparison; what you are doing is like comparing the QF Int F lounge to the J lounge. Not relevant!
F
The comparison is between QF Qantas Club and VA lounge where there is little difference in the food and device offerings!

Not relevant - JohnK was in a QF business lounge which is not the topic of this thread.

Apologies.

Next time I think about acquiring Virgin Platinum status I will make sure I only compare what Virgin offers in their lounges to the Qants lounges not the business lounges.

On the flip side, JohnK is comparing the highest available QF domestic lounge with the highest available VA domestic lounge. We have been through this before but the marketing suggest there isn't that much between the two.

It's news to me that either of the lounges serve meals. These days, I am not sure I even favour one lounge over the other. They are much of a muchness....

I understand what JohnK is doing, but not all airports served by QF and VA have the luxury of a QF J lounge.

ADL is a prime example; the QP is the highest offering to WP's traveling both domestically and internationally.

The main difference between the food offerings (certainly in the morning) is that QP serve their boiled eggs hot.

Being from PER I totally understand that - I think we can agree that the differences aren't that great, but to suggest it is like comparing the J lounge to the F lounge internationally is a bit overstated IMO.

I know this is off-topic for this pseudo thread but here goes.

In my opinion there is a noticeable difference between Qantas lounge and Virgin lounge.

All I have ever seen in Virgin lounges is hot dogs and vegetarian fried rice. Someone mentinoned occasionally they have a curry dish.

Qantas lounges have variety. In the past few months I have seen shepherd's pie dish, vegetarian tagine, vegetarian fried rice, various pasta dishes with some quite tasty, beef lasagne.

I also think the Qantas salads are a little better but that is a personal preference.

Qantas lounges also serve spirits.

Funny I have never seen the hot dogs in the VA lounges. I did however see them in the AirNZ Sydney lounge - I passed. I guess I don't frequent the VA lounges at hot dog time.
