What is a Meal in a QP or VA lounge?

On the flip side, JohnK is comparing the highest available QF domestic lounge with the highest available VA domestic lounge. We have been through this before but the marketing suggest there isn't that much between the two.

There are clear differences between the marketing that you refuse to acknowledge. You will also find there is a higher level of service on VA. As mentioned it is a false comparison to put up the highest level of Qantas against the lowest level of virgin. Even if you want to do that, the basic food offerings are the same in both lounges. The only difference is the extra option in the Qantas business lounge. Given it is a business lounge and offers a higher level of service it is natural for there to be something beyond the base level.

Qantas lounges have variety. In the past few months I have seen shepherd's pie dish, vegetarian tagine, vegetarian fried rice, various pasta dishes with some quite tasty, beef lasagne.

I also think the Qantas salads are a little better but that is a personal preference.

Qantas lounges also serve spirits.

All examples of Qantas business lounge meals. Not relevant.

The Qantas salads are functionally the same. The only noticeable difference is VA have Waldorfs more often than Qantas.

I know this is off-topic for this pseudo thread but here goes.

In my opinion there is a noticeable difference between Qantas lounge and Virgin lounge.

All I have ever seen in Virgin lounges is hot dogs and vegetarian fried rice. Someone mentinoned occasionally they have a curry dish.

Qantas lounges have variety. In the past few months I have seen shepherd's pie dish, vegetarian tagine, vegetarian fried rice, various pasta dishes with some quite tasty, beef lasagne.

I also think the Qantas salads are a little better but that is a personal preference.

Qantas lounges also serve spirits.

Drinks are not part of this thread, nor is anything that may be found in one of Qantas' 4 domestic business lounges.

I have never seen fried rice in a Virgin lounge and in the past in virgin lounges I have indeed seen pasta dishes, casseroles and similar, although not recently.

If you really want to see a modern day airline accountant weep, you could consider what was available in the QP's before Ansett went belly up.

Not one of those examples was business lounge. That has been the food available in the vanilla flavour Qantas lounges in SYD and BNE in past few months.

Not the same. Qantas lounges have fetta cheese, olives, various dips not seen in Virgin lounges, boiled capsicum in olive oil, egg plant etc.

Are spirits a meal?

They are a meal to some.

Outright tosh! The meals are the same as I've demonstrated a number of times. You are a clear example of the table I presented up thread. If it is done by Qantas you think it's good, yet the exact same thing from Virgin is "very simple". Take off the blinkers.

Well then according to your logic then, BAEC is the best loyalty program because (and I think you would have to agree with me) the food and services in the Concorde Rooms are clearly superior and have more variety than the QF Clubs and VA lounge products (EDIT sorry yes I know the programs themselves are off-topic but you get the point.)

Currently enjoying a meal in the CBR VA lounge, veg fried rice topped by the creamy thai chicken soup, and it is DELICIOUS.

Best food I've had in a VA lounge to date.

I rarely count on either lounge for a proper meal, normally treating it as a snack only, but tonight I had seconds so I wont be having dinner at my destination.

ps, lucky too as I only ate because the flight was delayed, it should have been boarding when I arrived at the terminal. Got to catch up on AFF too

Had the Beef Lasagne at the MEL QP a couple of weeks ago and I have to admit it was quite filling. Tasted quite good also.

I remember having the vegetarian fried rice before and my recollection of it was bland.

At lunchtime yesterday in the SYD VA Lounge there was 2 soups, 3 different types of cold meats, a variety of salads, 2 pasta dishes as well as different breads for sandwiches or toasties.

This is more than enough for an adequate lunch or snack

What else do you really need ?
