Is ADL security at it again. The post may be a bit of a rant, I am a traveler with very fixed routines so anything different I notice also this is not intended to be an ADL bashing, I live there and fly out on a weekly basis and have done so for more years than I care to remember.

Yesterday going through security there was the standard security chant remove all laptops, aerosols, umbrellas, phones etc., what I picked up on was iPads were to be removed. WTF I thought I cannot remember when the last time I had to take out my iPad at security in AU so I just ignored this and put may bag through. Sure enough it was set a side and had to be rescanned with the iPad removed. I asked the security person was the need to remove iPads and other tablet devices a new rule.

I was informed that the machine could not see through the iPads I thought was lot a load of rubbish, it is the same:
  • iPad that I have been using for months,
  • iPad that past through ADL security last week and the weeks/months before that without been removed from my HL
  • iPad that gets past through in MEL and SYD every other week whilst in HL.
  • X-ray machine as last week
I get that Airport security may not be the most exciting job in the world well some may get a kick out of it but why just randomly change rules. Time to get off my soap box and come to the realisation that for the next 4-6 weeks - remember to take out iPad until things go back to normal. Rant over

I had to take out my iPad last trip a couple of weeks ago. I likewise queried it. I didn’t have to on return from Melbourne. Umbrellas are another peculiarity.

I have noticed passing thru a number of airports in recent times, that my iPad Pro once OK left in my HL, has been required to be loaded in a container along with my shoes, belt, etc.. Like you I like routine and consistency, but find that no two airports have the same routines.

Having two replacement knees it is my usual practice to off load everything on my body anyway, so now add the iPad to the list of must does.

Airport Screening Wheel Of Fortune.

I have the same problem in Adelaide as well, always told to get my IPad out it shouldn’t be in my luggage, told them I don’t have this issue anywhere else, and I was told the other airports weren’t doing there job properly, had a VA flight Attendant behind me and she said they Had the worst record in Oz for trying to upset people, she got pulled aside for a scan after that!

I just went through Amsterdam screening and was told numerous times that all liquids and computers were to remain in bags for screening. So. Less. Hectic.

I have had this response before and the other chestnut ‘ADL is private ownership, they can do what they want’, I thought all AU airports were private, or owned in someway shape or form owned by some other listed entity, i.e. not owned by the government, but maybe wrong.

Whenever I want a taste of airport security in the USA, I go through ADL.

They're shocking. And yes, they're the only airport I've travelled through in years that have wanted my iPad out.

Last week I got told off there for leaving a tube of toothpaste in my bag. Love the consistency! :P

I think it depends on what terminal. Iceland Air T1 have older machines so everything out of bags but today was T3 and new machines (I think). It was damn pleasant in comparison.

My bag was recently side lined because I left my Microsoft Surface Pro inside.
I told the agent it's not a laptop, it's a tablet. He wasn't impressed.

Quite clearly it is Adelaides ‘thing’ for the month of April. Let’s see what May brings shall we?
