What is Virgin Australia's strategy (post-administration)?

I don't think charging for luggage is a contributor. Jetstar manage short turns. AirAsia allow a cabin bag and small bag and have 25 minute turnarounds.
 
Poor weather would also be affecting quick turns at the moment as well. No entry/exit from the rear if it's pouring/stormy at BNE/SYD/MEL.

One thing Jetstart does is that it aggressively enforces carry on baggage limit with expensive gate fees to deter people from bringing too much onboard

Having said that though I don't think the impact is that large. I regularly fly both JQ and VA on domestic routes and I find that when both front and rear doors are used disembarking time for both seems similar. I've also never seen an aircrafrt significantly delayed just because pax are trying to find places for their luggages. If anything, judging from the queue that forms on the jetbridge or the rear stairs I can't say I can spot any significant difference in boarding time in JQ vs VA.

JQ also have cleaners so that helps with turnaround time plus I'm pretty sure they don't need to wait for catering or anything which speeds things up.
 
Jetstar keep it a bit more simple, they use container luggage, reduces the complexity and time. As above, don’t generally load catering every flight. They often don’t load as much cargo as Virgin does.

737NG bins are tiny also, this would add a couple of minutes to each turn. Those bins are not designed for the travel of today.

Southwest turns are like clockwork. They keep it so so simple. Often less carry on due to the 2 free bags policy.

Agree, I don’t fly a tonne of JQ but 9/10 times the scales and credit card machine have been at the gate. They’ve trained their clientele well.

VA2 and QF do periodic blitzes but are not consistent so imagine people would chance it on both, but due to to the issues in VA2 ops planning for turns it bites them hard…
 
With H1 now over, we will likely find over the coming weeks if they plan to list. Keep an eye out.

Not sure if they would conduct another roadshow, I’d think they would conduct meetings with the fund managers etc from last year.

The million dollar question remains, is the market IPO ready for this to takeoff.

I'd say the same outcome as 2023, as per a previous post I've put up, the IPO would probably be a long way off and probably deferred (again) to Q1 2025

This time last year, a number of posters (with their insiders) and their fans were predicting/insisting that "VA will be listed in 2023!" only to back peddle when issues within Bain's control (on top of the issues outside of their control) started bubbling to the surface, and was pretty much inflicted by Bain themselves.

However as reported by other posters, the IPO markets are currently (close to if not) dead. However if (at all) any roadshow it'll be late Q2 with a predicted listing by Q1 2025.

Seems deliberate that VA/QF would turn a blind eye to people’s carry on exceeding the limit though. I can’t imagine business traveler would be too happy with a strict enforcement like JQ.

You can include 100 pieces of free checked baggage but if I have a meeting to go to I can’t afford to waste time waiting for them to be unloaded so I would always just pack one suite case worth of carry on unless I’m on an extended trip.

Most of these customers will have a check-in allowance with their ticket unlike JQ so it'll add operational overhead with no new revenue stream.

Poor performance in baggage handling through and post-COVID also means that most travellers don't want to take the risk of their bags going to another destination, even if a "free" checked bag or two is included with the ticket.
These days I'm only checking a bag if there's no way I can fit it into my roller and even then, I've got an Airtag in each bag now, despite being an avowed iPhobic 😑
 
It would be great if VA would introduce a 14kg carryon.

Considering the revenue upside, surely a no brainer.

I have opted for JQ on selected flights for the 14kg and the cheaper Flex conditions.
No thanks. It would make little sense in their offering anyway.

Currently Business/Beyond/Platinum/Gold get 2 x 7kg. Everyone else 1 x 7kg.
 
"Can you please help me put my bag up?" It's already annoying that pax don't put their personal item under the seat Infront of them.

It would be hectic if this happened and it's mostly the status pax 😝
Plus 14kg on your head because someone can’t wait to pull their bag out over the top of you as they are super important to get off the plane ten seconds before you.
 
What is their plans about the magical rope between J and ecomX.
I took 2J so couldnt stretch to see if on the flight I took on 26 Dec, if the rope was still there.

New config has no divider meaning no rope. 🙄

Some kind of mesh or whatever divider which will be attached to the ceiling behind row 2 in the year 3000 and that's about it. Open aisle
