What side of the plane do you sit on?

I choose seat based on the following criteria:
1. Aisle seat
2. Seat with potentially least people climbing over me (e.g. in Y, the middle section of a 777 in a 3-3-3 config)
3. As close to the front as possible
4. Side away from the sun

Well put, Andy. +1

As long as its a window seat i don't rally care, guess i may sit on the left more without meaning to, never thought about sun really and only vaguely about sites...

After a 1000+ commercial flights as a passenger, the sun really does become a consideration.

For my first 100 flights or so, window seating was a priority for me - no longer.

It's interesting some of the responses.

If a bit like "FEBO" on AA flight when in the pointy end - bulkhead to me is my main priority, followed by sun orientation. Whether I get first or last meal choice is not a real consideration (it is only "Airline" food).

I usually think about what time of day the flight is, the main direction it will be travelling and where the sun will be streaming in from. Sometimes I don’t want to be baked, while other times I want a good photo op for a sunset.

That said, you’ll usually find me in 4D and I have no clue why I’ve selected 1A for all my upcoming flights. I must have gone mad!

When flying whY, I'm usually on the right and always prefer a window seat. I like to board early to ensure I get overhead locker space and once seated I can relax/nap/send some emails without people climbing over me to get to their seat.

It's a bother having to get up and back out into the aisle so someone can get to their A/F seat and then fighting your way against the stream of people headed to the back of the plane to reclaim the seat you were just sitting in.

That being said, I'll take an Exit Row centre seat over a window seat anywhere if those are my only options.

I've just booked a trip to Sydney and picked the LHS both times to avoid the sun (and also because I just like sitting on that side).

Domestic Economy - aisle, as far forward as possible. I'll take a forward window seat over an aisle seat in row 6 or beyond. For the short hops I value getting off quickly over shoulder and legroom.

I almost never fly domestic business class but take a window seat when I do.

Long haul, an exit row aisle seat when in economy. A window seat when in business.

Within those criteria, I will sit on the left of the plane when possible, but the side is far less important to me than the factors above.
