What side of the plane do you sit on?

Totally depends on route/aircraft etc. I vary quite a lot. If there's a nice view on descent it might sway me to pick one side over another, or sunrise/sunset side I tend to steer away from if possible. But too variable to be general about it.

Away from the Sun/Sunrise as much as possible - although that won't take precedence over a bulkhead seat.

My exact methodology. Choose the side where you can keep your window shutter open and not have to deal with glare or getting cooked in your seat :D

I don't usually care which side, but the question earlier re American/European got me wondering... So, I asked Mrs AN*G (European), and discovered that she always prefers left, and as close to the disembarking door as possible (equipment and airport dependent, of course). Her travel is 99% international wide body.

Master AN*G overheard, and promptly offered the "inside"...

Bucking the trend I prefer the right side of the aircraft in general. I'm Right-handed so like the extra ledges and bins on the UD 747 on the R, unless in a rearward facing BA CW seat when I'd have to sit on the Left.
I'm also one of those weird window seat preferred flyers as I hate being disturbed for someone to go to the bathroom ( obviously I'm not too fussed about disturbing other people  )
I'm sure there must be others of us around!
I do make an exception to this rule for my favourite seat in an aircraft: 1A in the nose of a 747 ( not that I'm there very often). Love having a boarding pass saying "Fiona/ Princess Seat 1A "

One thing that surprised me on joining AFF was the large number of people who positively prefer aisle seats. I like the window to look out of and to rest against. I don't mind clambering over people to get out. I used to assume most people shared this preference.

Sitting in 1A is always nice. Most recently did it coming back from Perth in one of the internationally configured A330s and it was bliss. FA service was really excellent too.

Perfect, logical sense - particularly, with glass in hand;)

I'm a window seat kinda guy too.

My preferences (in order of importance to me) seem to be:

- window seat
- close as possible to the front
- left side over right side

For long flights my preference is an aisle seat, does not matter which side.

For domestic, my preference is window. I love looking out the window at our amazing country. Which side depends on the flight and the time. For example on SYD-BNE in day time (my most frequent flight) I will always book K and hope that the weather is not cloudy. The view of the NSW coastline and the various river valleys from the Manning to the Richmond is amazing.

BNE to SYD I prefer A, although less important. Views over the mountains and gorges are interesting. When landing from the north I still love the views of the harbour and the city from A, even after twenty years of living in Sydney.

Prefer the right hand side. I have been known a few times after a long day to go on "autopilot" and sit in the right hand side without thinking about it, even though my assigned seat was on the left hand side.

Not sure why I like that side, also always go with window seats.

The side away from the sun if possible. So usually the right hand side for morning flights out of BNE to MEL, CBR, SYD and the same for the return flights in the evening. Flying down to MEL in the afternoon next week, so I will pick a left hand seat (unless being a creature of habit I just select 4F without thinking!)

When you've flown betwixt MEL and SYD 200 or more times you really don't care what's outside.

Aisle seats for quick access to the Loos should that be needed. :D

Hadn't thought about it too much but I think I generally go with the left (port) side.
My main preference is selecting a seat with no one next to me. So often I'll pick an aisle seat in the centre section of a 767.

As for aisle vs window, for years I've picked aisle for ease of getting to the toilet if needed and being able to stand up first on landing. However the price of the aisle is if you board in the first wave you get every idiot bumping you in the head and/or shoulder with their stupid hand luggage. I can't believe how many people seem not to care a stuff about how they carry their bag down the aisle. I am broad-shouldered so I must protrude somewhat into the aisle and as a result cop it a lot, I find myself leaning towards the window every time someone goes past with a bag.
It also means there's a good chance of being bumped with the trolley when it emerges.

So on reflection I've started taking the window on short hauls (SYD-BNE or MEL but not PER) as I won't need a toilet visit in that time most probably. As someone said you can lean on the window (there's not a lot to see after hundreds of flights I agree) and you always get off the plane before the row behind you anyway so you're not going to be left behind.

I wonder if anyone has a middle seat preference? (not that you can select it).

My preference is aisle seat on left side of aircraft but there are other overiding factors that may come in to play

- Will try and get the side that may provide some views
- Will go for row 4 window seats if no aisle seats up front
- In business class will try and allocate window seats where possible and again depended on which side is likely to give better views
- Preference for JK seats on 767 (for obvious reasons) and also to avoid BDF as that can easily get one down the back of the aircraft if substituted for a 737

I prefer the right, always seem to deplane quicker.

Otherwise sit on the left .. but then dart across to the right when getting off :D

I don't mind either left or right side so long as it's an aisle seat & as close to the front as possible. Got stuck with a window seat once beside an old geezer & he absolutely refused to move so had to climb over him to stretch my legs & use the loo. Never again.

I choose seat based on the following criteria:
1. Aisle seat
2. Seat with potentially least people climbing over me (e.g. in Y, the middle section of a 777 in a 3-3-3 config)
3. As close to the front as possible
4. Side away from the sun
