Hey guys,

Looking for some good practice/tips to maximise the points on my AMEX Qantas ultimate card.
Do you pay all bills with it? etc.

Thanks in advance also sorry if there is a thread for this i looked in the amex subsection.

Agree everything you can and PayPal is the best opportunity for companies that don't take Amex. Always ask.

If you really want to maximise your points, I'm happy for forward my bills to you and you can pay them. Think of the points you'll earn! 🤣

+1, everything. For places that don’t take Amex, I get a Visa one gift card from Woolies/Coles and pay for it on the Amex. Load it up to $500.00, and use it thus. Of course I’ve also got a Visa etc, but I prefer all my points in one place, i.e. Amex.

Agree Either a Visa or MC is essential but not as a primary card. AMEX are getting better and some of the surcharges and variety of merchants are more reasonable these days.

I don’t know about the Ultimate card but I’ve shifted a few things away from my QF Biz AMEX to QF NAB VISA. Namely utilities (EA Gas and Electricity now only .5 pts). Even my GIO Car Insurance came in at .5 pts.

Apart from QF flights, I‘ve started moving QF wine/hotels etc over to VISA. They’re more likely to post with bonus pts than AMEX (I’m sure they used to work in the past).

As above, PayPal is handy but don’t use PP if they accept AMEX already, you might miss out on a cash back offer.

Just wondering, does anyone have experience with paying your rent on a credit card in Sydney? Just asking for a friend who moved there. TIA

Depends if the agent accepts credit card payments for rent, and if so, do they take Amex?

Find a real estate agent that supports/partners with RentalRewards. That's what I did before I bought my own home. It may sound crazy but true, that it's actually one of the requirements when I looked for rentals, only considering such agents and ignoring those who aren't credit card friendly🤣. I remember during Amex's Double Double promotion in April-July 2020 I even offered to pre-pay some months of rent as the benefits so outweighed the surcharges.

Good suggestion. Thanks. You could put quite a bit of rent on the amex credit card and get 3x, even if you had the edge card, and the landlord accepted the Visa one gift cards bought at Coles.

Not that you may wish to anyone but you can pay extra into your utilities - ATO etc using your amex and get points.
Having had a card hacked in the past (that paid my utilities - NOT AMEX) I actually like having a buffer and often means nothing to pay on next bill. If you pay early w ATO it stays on record you are in credit and they pay interest

It is only half points paying ATO directly with Amex so a relatively expensive way of accumulating points though. If you can tax-deduct the fees, using one of the payment processors
Is usually more efficient

I'm in a Meriton managed apartment, they take Bpay, and I've recently begun paying through SNIIP.

Although this has a fee involved, it's a handy points boost for me for now as I work on attaining PC+
