What the best seat(s) to choose in First class on A380?

Re: Best F couple seats A380

There is a privacy barrier between the A and F seats (A seats exit into LH aisle, F and K into RH aisle), such that if you were an A wishing to speak to an F you would need to stand up into the aisle and lean over it. No such barriers AFAIK between F and K seats. (It was a midnight departure I was on after a full day's flying and Flounging so I hope my memory is correct on this).

Re: Best F couple seats A380

Hi all,

Finally took the step and booked a long overdue holiday.

2 * FASA SYD-LAX on QF11.

We have been allocated 2A/2F but as mrs ejb is a nervous flyer I was hoping someone could tell me the two seats best for a couple.

Thanks.

ejb

You get Mrs EJB onto the Bollinger and everything will be alright.

Where you are sitting has no real bearing on survival rates!!

Re: Best F couple seats A380

I would ignore all the front seats and sit in F and K.

The seat are off set so you will not have direct facial view .

They put the window screens down once altitude is reached, meals are served (you have the choice of eating together or in your own space) and usually by this stage you have consumed at least 2 champers on tarmac and what ever with meal.

A little IFE, have bed made up and then a good night sleep - so I think mrs ejd will be content. if not take a deck of cards to be a little closer and take her mind off the flight.

Enjoy F

Flounging did not taint your memory. There is a screen between A and F, but no screens between F and K.

The above view, on boarding, shows the aisle between A & F with the screen in the lowered position. When raised, you can't see the pax in F without standing.

Re: Best F couple seats A380

I'd recommend getting windows in consecutive rows. Personally I would avoid F as you are more likely to get foot traffic, you are impacted on both sides. The "Privacy Screen" was non functional on one occasion I can recall which leaves you very exposed. not sure if this is a regular issue.

If you really wanted to be "side by side" I'd recommend F, K pair, rear of cabin. As others have stated you will need to get up and walk around if you in A, F.

Doesn't really matter, you can eat together easily and nip up to the "lounge" for a bit of a chat.

If you end up getting bounced to a 74x cancel the trip  or drop back to Business and save the $$.

Re: Best F couple seats A380

I'd recommend getting windows in consecutive rows.

My wife and I usually go for 4A / 5A when flying together. Partly that's because of the bassinet at 5A but having two aisle seats puts us about as close together as you can be on the A380. Being directly in front of each other on a window side does mean you can lean around the seat on the window side (if the privacy screen isn't raised) for brief communication without getting completely out of the seat.

If you end up getting bounced to a 74x cancel the trip  or drop back to Business and save the $$.

Although the 747 F cabin is indeed worlds behind the A380, it's a far friendlier place for couples to travel and if you get the E/F seats then having the chance to actually interact with your partner makes up for not having as nice a cabin environment as the 380.

Re: Best F couple seats A380

I have wondered for a while when this would come up.

I think the designer of the new First class cabin should go back to school and learn how to include human interaction in his designs. He has totally lost the plot, some people travel as a couple and like to sit next to each other.

My partner and I always sit together. This is why we now look at other airlines as an option when travelling First.

QF A380 F seating for singles - help settle my mind

Yes, there have been several threads on this in the past but I can't find a definitive answer, specifically for the solo traveller. Not exactly the biggest dilemma I'll ever face in air travel, but hey that's what this place is for, no?

For a overnight flight on the A380, I'm been given 1A. 2A is occupied  so there goes my cunning plan. Everything else is available. The A seats are preferable for the private aisle but front row can get some disturbance. Those who have more experience, would 3A be a better choice? or something else. I'm wanting to sleep without needing to count SC's . I know, I know, any F seat is a good seat.

Of course if it remains even close to F9 A8 as it stands now, then it will hardly been any concern. I can only hope.

Re: QF A380 F seating for singles - help settle my mind

The only time I flew first in the A380 I snagged 5A and reckon it is the best seat in its class.

No one behind you and the galley is very quiet.

However I believe it is the bassinet seat so you may be moved at the last minute.

I agree that the A side is the best.

Re: QF A380 F seating for singles - help settle my mind

5A is the most private F suite.

It is a bassinet seat, so you may get relocated or forced to choose again.

No one can look into 5A unless they lower the dividers and spin around / contort themselves. It is nearest to the galley so you will hear galley noise but if you can put up with that it's a great seat.

Re: QF A380 F seating for singles - help settle my mind

My only QF A380 experience was in 1A and TBH I was so zonked (midnight departure after a full day of flying on another airline) that despite not usually being a good sleeper on planes, a herd of elephants stampeding down the aisle would not have disturbed me.

That said, before I went to sleep (I manfully stayed awake as long as I could to enjoy the soft product :)), I did notice a few people wander past, but it was not bothersome. I doubt 1A will be any worse than any other seat.

Re: QF A380 F seating for singles - help settle my mind

Ok, thank you! 5A looks like the private suite I've been wanting - but I'll keep in mind re: bassinet position. Not too worried about being served dinner/supper last - that's what the lounge is for and after that I'd expect little noise from the galley.

At the end of the day you're no doubt right. With no more than 4 other pax that can use the aisle, I wouldn't expect to be woken but privacy is a wonderful thing.

With the privacy screens down, how exposed are the rest of A seats to the F seats? To be clear, I have 0 experience with the A380.

Here's a picture of me sitting in 5A taking a shot towards the front of the aircraft. From here, you can see the F seats. Obviously, I'm sitting in the "take-off/landing" position (i.e. straight ahead with sash belt on), but if you examine this photo and also look at the seat map on the QF website, there's very little chance someone in the F seats could spot you easily.

The other A seats are gradually exposed to the F seats and more so if the dividers are down and the F-seat passengers are sitting in the "cruising" position (i.e. at an angle, allowed once the seat belt sign is switched off).

Re: QF A380 F seating for singles - help settle my mind

The only time I've flown in 5A was actually to have use of the bassinet, and I didn't really like the seat due to the proximity of the cupboard directly across the aisle. Whilst I'm a pretty heavy sleeper myself my 6 month old daughter (who was sleeping on my chest) woke up every time the cupboard was opened during the night due to the lights inside the cupboard that seem to be triggered to turn on when the door is opened.

If you're a light sleeper (or light-sensitive) I'd consider 4A instead, or even 5K (my favourite) which still has the benefits of being at the back of the aisle and due to the offset of the middle row is almost as private as 5A.

Re: QF A380 F seating for singles - help settle my mind

I had 3A in August to LAX and thought it was great. At cruising alt the screens on the opposite side of the aisle are raised, you raise the small screen at the foot of your suite and you feel like you're the only one on the flight. Change into your PJ's before take off. Consider the tasting menu for a meal.

Re: QF A380 F seating for singles - help settle my mind

I did 3K SYD-LAX last year, i was happy with a points upgrade from J..

Have upgrades in for SYD-LAX-SYD at the End April, Start May, so if i get them i will see if i can get 5A, sounds good :) but hey, any F seat is good!!! especially on the 388.

That said, if i was flying with someone, i would not put an upgrade in and would stay in J as i think that would be better to fly as its much easier to speak with someone in those seats.

Re: QF A380 F seating for singles - help settle my mind

I ALWAYS sit in row 1... I have done 20 or so A380 flights in 1A and 1 in 1K.

I did not notice any noise etc of pax coming past me. I believe the further back you sit the more potential noise, distractions you will encounter.

I am a creature of habit so I will always select 1A on the A380.

Re: QF A380 F seating for singles - help settle my mind

Joshua

Hope you're not flying LAX-SYD at the end of April, if so, I think I might know who's sitting in 2A !
