Re: QF A380 F seating for singles - help settle my mind

I have travelled in both the A row and the K row on the 388 in F. My flights are generally QF32 to or from London via Singapore. I have done the LAX to SYD once when John Howard (former PM) was seated in 3A. I think 1A and 5A and 1K and 5K have more exposure to disturbance because of their proximity to the galley in 5 and the toilets in 1. I prefer 2, 3 or 4 and find them adequately private. The A side has the least amount of passers by. Avoid the centre row for the obvious reasons. No matter which seat, its the only way to fly !!

Re: QF A380 F seating for singles - help settle my mind

The only thing about row A is that the seats in F look straight into A until the privacy screens go up. At least on the K side you are facing the opposite direction to the F suites.

Re: QF A380 F seating for singles - help settle my mind

I flew 3A which was completely fine. A few hours into the flight though I killed the electrics in the seat and was moved to 3F. (The crew did manage to reboot seat 3A so I moved back later.) Even in the middle of the cabin surrounded by seats, when sitting down you could see some people's legs and presumably they could see yours but it was still very private. Plus no one is looking!

Agree, the degustation menu was sublime!

Re: QF A380 F seating for singles - help settle my mind

Well thank you all. It appears each seat is just that bit slightly different, each with their own variances. Something more subjective that things like seat guru can't convey.

rooboy68, it's the Kangaroo route alas. QF9 & QF31 are lightly loaded in F for now. Fingers crossed it will remain a quiet, mid-week flight. Unfortunately it looks like I'll be returning on a 747 so won't get to repeat the experience. As long as I return through SYD and hook up with QF81 back to ADL to the get F lounge again I'm happy :)

QF A380 F seating for singles - help settle my mind

I was meant to be in 1A for my last F flight, but was booted to 5A whilst in the lounge as the IFE wasn't working.

Was quite happy with 5A, didn't notice any noise, and incredibly private. Lots of space too.

Just booked a SYD LAX First seat on A380. Can member recommend what they think is the best seat? Also what Champagne are they serving on A380 right now?

Good stuff! :)

I have only flown in 1A (upgrade, not deliberately chosen) and found no issues with it, though many have recommended 3A as it is more-or-less equidistant from the front and rear of the F cabin, thus avoiding potential toilet/galley/closet issues. I've chosen 3A for a couple of flights next year. The A seats appear (to me, anyway) better than F or K because the latter two exit into the same (RH) aisle, whereas A is the only seat exiting into the LH aisle.

I'm sure there are differing opinions out there.

They served Taittinger Comtes de Champagne (~2000 vintage I think) on my flight (as well as Penfolds Bin 707 :) ) - but that was over a year ago, don't know about now.

Obviously we all have different tastes, but I prefer 5K. The galley noise doesn't bother me (I'm either up working /eating or sound asleep), nobody walks past you to get to the toilets and other passengers can't see into your 'seat space' even at takeoff with the seats facing forward and the privacy screens down.

Keep in mind that 5A is a bassinet seat so there's always the chance of having it taken from you should the bassinet be needed.

Champagne as tuapekastar noted is still the Tattenger (at least it still was a month ago). It doesn't seem like the Dom is likely to be back anytime soon as QF have even updated their promotional material for the A380 to remove the photographic evidence that they ever offered it.

I don't think there are any bad seats in F on the A380 :)

As mentioned F and K empty into the same aisle.
People in the F seats can "see" into your space in the A/K seats due to the placement, unless you are in 5A/K.
There's no overhead storage in the F seats, but you seem to be allowed to stow whatever you want in your mini-cabin under the footrest.

I've tried 3A/4F/5F/4K so far. Got 1K at the end of the month. They all see the same to me :)

Question on A380 F

We've just booked some Aone4s for next June/July and this will include flying on the A380 from LA to Syd. Hooray - first time on an A380. My question is, is it worth while trying to sit together say 3 F K, or is it better to get say 2A and 3A and use the little seat if we want to socialise? The suites look they are not that easy to socialise with anyway and maybe getting the extra privacy from the A seats is better? I can pretty much choose any seats at the moment.

Oops just noticed I have a 9 in the title not an 8 - never have been any good at typing - can't work out how to edit it either :(

re: Question on A380 F

You aren’t going to be able to see each other no matter which seats you choose. Personally I’d go with the A seats. The only thing is, if you wind up deciding to both sit in the same row, then definitely don’t choose an A seat as you’ll have a long walk around the front to get to the other person’s seat.

Also it’s spectacularly good - enjoy! ;)

Thanks that is very helpful :) I am so looking forward to it! Will go and select the A seats now.

Re: Question on A380 F

May I suggest row 1 or 2 (the back rows do get some Galley noise). Also from the 3 flights I've done families with small children seemed to be in last row. I only mention this as some people get hung up with kids noise in prem cabins(all the kids I noticed were well behaved).
Either way its the most pleasant flying experience I've had(thrown in with an F lounge visit and spa treatment)
:)
have a great trip

I recently did SYD-LAX on the A380 in First with my other half. We were in 4F and 5F. Neither of us reported any noise issues from the galley. Well not that we noticed after lots of Veuve in the First lounge and Tattinger onboard. We also did the joint dining option which was great. There is still plenty of room and whoever is on the ottoman can still get out if needed. Please keep in mind this was our first and probably only First experience.

Re: Question on A380 F

Have only done the A380 F solo, but would concur with the A seats, given they're the only seats that are accessed from the LH aisle, and are IMHO quite private. I had 1A (points upgrade, plane chockers, no choice) and no issues, but 2A/3A sound pretty good options to me.

Probably the only people you should see in the vicinity of your seats other than crew are 4A and 5A making their way to/from the toilet.

Thanks! I have travelled with my 3 kids in F when they were quite little (3 under 6), so I would be a hypocrite if I complained about children, however a bit of distance is a good idea. With our youngest now 20 we are enjoying travelling on our own.

Thanks for comments everyone - this is a great place for getting hands on info!

Re: Question on A380 F

What a timely thread for me to notice... I'm currently in the (rather disappointing) first lounge in SIN waiting for QF9 to London. Unfortunately this leg is on a 747 however I get to try the A380 first on my way home. I have seat 1A this trip and 2A on the way back I think. These seats seemed perfect for a solo traveller so am happy to let you know how they go if anyone is looking for any further thoughs on the topic...
Back to the beer now I think...(not a fan of the champagne they are serving here - hope the onboard variety is nicer!)
