What the best seat(s) to choose in First class on A380?

I've seldom seen the lounge area used at all. QF would be better off turning it into larger toilets or a shower like Emirates.

They'll never do the shower. too expensive and maintenance on those things is apparently horrendous (water leaks and so on) let alone the extra fuel requirements to carry around all that extra water. I'd wonder if the things could fly on routes like MEL-LAX or SYD-DFW with that extra kind of load. Doubtful.

unless you want your F water refilled from the shower water rather than the potable water :D

I agree an extra lav would make sense, or even if they expanded the snack station from that little "hole in the wall" they have at the top of the stairs to a more substantial setup, and they could still have a couple of seats there.

imho

How come I am the only clown here who likes F seats? Do all you other guys just like to cacoon yourselves away from ALL other pax and whatever is going on in and around the F cabin? You all seem like such an unsociable bunch!

I think that is true. :(. i just want to have my own very private little space and I don't even talk to Mr FM on the flight :(. Plenty of socialising time with him and others either side of the flight, so the flight is all about me!

I agree the J lounge is a bit of a missed opportunity and an awkward space - but certainly not worth putting in a shower.

Ironically - given my comments re lighting in cabins earlier - the only times I've used it when travelling J have been in the middle of night when emerald city was completely dark and I wanted to read or have a snack - I'd use the lounge as a means of doing this without disturbing other pax at an obvious sleep situation.

Never felt the need to use that lounge when in F (but they've always been solo trips). Might be handy if wanting to chat with companions.

Yes, we're all selfish isolationist snobs

plus I like access to an overhead!! :D A seats all the way for me

I am mildly extroverted, and quite like the open cabin in J on the A380 - I like a sense of colour and movement, and love the sounds of wine and champagne bottles opening during the meal service - but on AFF I think I am in the minority. I think there is a strong tendency to introversion here, particularly amongst those that prioritise travel in premium cabins. This is certainly not a criticism or value judgement, but rather an observation.

Looks like it. That row seems really exposed to those in the A section. I don't really want to see you. Hell, I declined eating with MrP because I didn't want to share my space. :p.

I seem to recall a number of seat configuration changes, but is QF7 the only A380-800 flight with F from SYD to DFW?

QF7 is the only flight from SYD to DFW, and its an A380 six days a week (Excl. Tuesdays). It used to be a daily service with a 747.

Such a me me me society nowadays - we bury ourselves in our own self indulgence and that stupid Spacebook medium or whatever it's called - oh how I yearn for the society of yesteryear where social intercourse ruled! Thank god for Champagne!

Social Intercourse? Wont I get into trouble for that?

But seriously..Frankly, I'd be annoyed if there was someone wanting to just yabber away all flight simply because they're sitting next to me. Yes being polite is definitely necessary, but you don't have to make friends either.

My favourite thing about EK F is the door. It's about the first button I press on every flight.

I dont see why inflicting "me" on others is such a joy for them.

And even if I was a joy to be with, my work is full of other people, I don't need this on a plane. That is what ear phones in Y are designed for.

Just because it is digital doesn't mean it isn't social :). While I dislike some of the stuff on "Spacebook" it allows the most amazing social interaction. When we were in Botswana Mr Fm gave our waitress at Kings Pool his facebook page so she could download a photo he took of her. She sent us both friend requests (as these young people do) and although generally I don't accept friend requests, unless they are close friends, I couldn't snub her. We are now keeping in touch and had a lovely New Year's greeting from her. I chat to Dr FM constantly via it - given her bizarre schedules at the hospital I don't like to phone her, but Spacebook means we can chat when it works for her. I wish it had existed in the 60s when I finished school, half a world away from Australia, as I would never have lost touch with so many people!

Why did you walk up the stars if you were in 1A?

I go for a wander up the stairs while my bed is being made to stretch my legs. And to suss out what snacks are on offer in J (even after I've made a little piglet of myself on the tasting menu!) :)

While I understand and appreciate the general idea that as a society we are becoming more and more disconnected from *some* aspects of society as in the past the more we become connected (for example, look at people in public with 90% heads in tablets/phones/ipods(I am one), etc)) Some would say the fine art of polite conversation is lost, specially at the dinner table where again devices or TV may rule in some households (I live by myself, so I only talk to the cat and she's not much for polite chit chat :) )

certainly I understand these issues, but I also agree FM that in many ways being able to connect to all over the world via things like "spacebook" or instaglam or whatever also help us keep up with and share with people all over the place that 20 years ago we'd maybe wait for a phone call or post card or something. Now, I see a post and photos from my friend who just arrived in HNL with her daughter for a long awaited exciting trip.... that helps share things and, ironically, keep connected with those around us

but getting back to the thread and on topic, to me one of the many reasons people would want to purchase premium travel such as in J or specially F class, apart from things like premium F&B, ability to sleep more easily, leg room and aisle access, is *privacy* to not be disturbed if we want to sleep or work or whatever in peace.

I think EK has a nice solution to this with the communal bar down the back and if you want to go chat to fellow pax then go down there, share some nuts and a drink or two and chat away. Perfect.

but a lot of people value F on airlines like QF, in part, for the relative privacy it provides.

Is this a bad thing? maybe to some, but to most it is an aspect of the product that is really worth something to them.
