What the best seat(s) to choose in First class on A380?

Are QF F cabins invariably 'full'? If comm tix and rdpts don't fill F cabins then oversold J seats and pts upgrades would usually see all vacant seats occupied - or even rare op ups?

Genuine question as I know next to zip about QF - SQ on other hand never upgrade to F unless J oversold.

I would suggest not. I have only flown QF F once (LHR-DXB-MEL) and the first leg had 5 and second, 4 pax.

There'll be others with more experience, but my handful of US F flights were all full. The one return to LHR had some empty seats DXB-LHR-DXB. But limited experience.

Not sure - on our F flights cabin has been pretty full most of the time, even if it had been almost empty a month previously. Hard to say how much of that is award/upgrades, as the general wisdom is that F people don't book that much ahead (apart from sales hounds like me). If you look on the succesful upgrades thread there seems to be quite a lot of succesful upgrades to F and Mr FM and I were successful in getting 2 J to F upgrades Lax to Syd in 2014.

Our F cabin wasn't full. There was a spare seat which was just as well as there was an issue with 2F

On my last eight or nine return flights Oz-LHR in QF F, plus two or three return flights Oz-LAX again in QF F, I am hard pressed to remember more than one or two seats vacant in total, although I recall the cabin crew reporting on one or two of those flights that there was a lighter than usual load in Y.

(Can't comment with any certainty on the upgrade situation, though.)

Thoughts on seats for 2 pax? Booked F MEL-LHR QF9 for Christmas day and haven't flown QF F before so wondering the best seats if we were to converse with each other. :D

That's a pretty tough call as none of the seats face each other at all.
You can dine together in one suite but that's about it really.
Personally I'd pick two consecutive Windows on the A side.

Therein lies the problem with QF F cabin - impossible to have 2 seats that allows any significant interaction - best the 2 of you plan to retreat to your own little worlds for the duration.

Tip for 1st time QF F users make sure you ask FA to fully explain all features - my one and only QF F exp neither Cruiserette nor myself were made aware of the massage function in seat - cabin crew gave ZERO run down on F features full stop - crew treated me ok but Cruiserette said she was virtually ignored - may have just been a one off as others speak highly of QF F crew but be aware.

Thanks a bunch to both of you, you've confirmed my suspicions. Last time we flew F was TG to BKK in old config so were seated next to each other, I've explained to the wife that we may not be able to hold hands all the way this time.. :p

I think after Christmas lunch and making our way to MEL we might just be ready to go zone out and goto sleep.

I was thinking J.
The dinner option is nice but who gives up the comfy seat? :p.

I really like being left to my own devices. Besides MrP sometimes works and makes me feel guilty if I can see him.

We had a fantastic crew DXB - Syd who was itching to tell is everything. She was wonderful.

I'd agree with this.

Don't just go to sleep, make use of the dine together facility to experience a meal face to face whilst hurtling across the atmosphere at almost 1000kph. Its really a wonderful experience; plus you will get to hold hands.

Enjoy!

3A and 4A selected. 320 days to go... :p

A few years ago my FA was saying "and would you be interested in Mr FM joining you for dinner". me - we've been married 32 years. Oh he gushes in that case you will definitely want to be together. me - No - after all this time we really don't need to have dinner together on a plane :)

We will have only been married 3 years by the time we take our QF flight.. I wonder if the novelty will have worn off by then. :p

It's a shame QF FAs don't personally escort F pax to their seats and explain some of the main features like it's done on other airlines. Could really enhance the whole experience, especially for first-timers.

I really like the massage function on QF F (unlike J which is rubbish) and keep it on as long as I'm awake :)

Mrs Reloads first time in F was exactly that, she had no idea how to work all the controls and see all the features of the mini suite. it wasn't until I came down to visit from J and gave her the tour did she appreciate how it all worked, she even commented on your point, a little quick "have you flown with us in First before?" isnt that hard.

My 7 year old on the other hand had it sorted in a heartbeat!

Yes. We said exactly the same. 37 years in our case. So she nodded and said she knew exactly what we meant.
