What type of shop/store would you like to see at the airport that isn't usually there now

IIRC I was at SYD domestic last year, airside in a burger place, and saw that the knives were attached to the benches with steel cables. Prison kitchen style. (not that I would know!)

Ah so that's how it's done. I couldn't see this working for an airside barbershop though.

Now that would be truly exciting, especially if they had the same cheap pricing as Japanese ones! The value for some really good food options is astounding

JNB has this. Not sure how fast the turnaround service is, but it was doing a roaring trade.

But the problem with it, having endured a long wait there due to an almost 2am departure a couple of times recently with teen kids is that the movies they show are all middle of the road films several years old and the seats are filled with people who may or may not be snoring!

Being Singapore, they’re probably all excessively edited so any word that could potentially be construed as ‘rude’ is missing, and the half-hour-shorter-as-a-result movie is now impossible to follow?

Haha, that reminds me of the time in 1995 when Pulp Fiction aired on TV in HK. It was a huge deal with lots of publicity, but it was so heavily edited and overdubbed in parts it was a joke.

I've got a theory (and I'm sure others have had this long before me) that the fastest way to make passengers happy is to keep them fed. For me, ice cream would turn any flight in to a good one

AFAIK they have knives, they are frequently counted and I suspect there would need to be better justification for them than "because we want them". I also suspect they need to be kept locked away when not in use, and they never leave the assigned area.

That said I also suspect the answer could change depending on the local laws.

It's one thing to want all these shops but with exorbitant rent I doubt many would survive. Imagine the mark up just to make a profit.

That's right. Australia Post said 'no thanks' to renewing its lease at Melbourne T2 many years ago due to just that.

How some of the existing shops survive is beyond me. Especially the luxury brands at Melbourne International airside. I may be missing the times when mainland Chinese pass by, but usually (including recently) I see a grand total of 'nil' customers in these shops. However, with huge mark ups, they may not need many sales per day to stay afloat.

The only place I've ever found ice-cream in an airport is at Mc Donalds or Hungry Jacks. I actually walked around SIN AP looking for ice-cream before a flight.

I would love a good ice-cream place with lots of flavours and soft serve.

A post office (SYD has one but certainly not all airports), and a grocery store (useful on arrival) (again some ariports have them or a least a mini-mart but not all)

South African Airports have Woolworths Food shops and clothing in all airports. Excellent for prepared foods and snacks and also essential clothing. They are the owner of David Jones in Australia and I'm waiting for the food shop concept to appear in Australia.

UK airports all have Boots chemist chain airside which has excellent deals on 100ml travel size toiletries. Dixons airside is also very competitive on electronics.

I need a barber when travelling since I forget to get a haircut until I see myself in the mirror on the way to a meeting. I saw one last week in AMS or ICN - can't remember.

I suspect all the airport stores for Gucci, Bvlgari etc are what I think is called "Advertising loss leaders"......
