Whats your biggest SC run and or back to back flying?

Well that sucks. It almost makes me wonder whether it would be better for me to fly predominantly with Virgin or Qantas.

Depending on how much you fly and if you want to attain/retain status then it is often better to choose an airline and stick with it. However, price is always a determining factor.

I understand that it's best to stick with a single airline, I just don't know which one right now. Qantas is a good airline, don't get me wrong, but Virgin consistently has lower fares.

You'll find plenty of views on that here

I really like Qantas as an airline, and I think they're the best choice given their large alliance and coverage. If they continue to lower the standard of FF, I'll just switch to Virgin.

Talk about possible SC runs in Japan the last few days prompted me to dig up a spreadsheet i put together of a SC run i did a couple of years back.

Thought it would be interesting to see what the most back to back flying others have done. Either as a SC run or just in normal travel.

The highlighted flights were my actual SC run. The flights before were the end of a family holiday and the last two flights were to get me home.

I did sleep in a physical bed in SJU and MEL!

From memory it was 120 hours from when we left the hotel in Barbados to when i walked in the door at home in Perth...

Good lord - you are bonkers!!! :)

Back in 2010 AA had a double EQM from a small set of USA airports... So a cheap trip to STL and a route from there to SAN (via NRT - thank you AA EXP upgrades) allowed my last year as AA Emerald. Result: EXP instead of PLT. So PER-HKG-NRT-LAX-ORD-STL-DFW-NRT-LAX-SAN-DFW-STL-ORD-SAN-LAX-HKG-SIN-PER in 9 days.

Note: During the year were included were a couple of PER-SIN and PER-HKG legs on QF.

The downside of the trip was standing in the F/Emerald boarding line for a Y flight on CX and having the two in front of me get OPups. it was not a comfortable flight since CX had not yet replaced the Y shell seats. Oh well... Maybe that's why I prefer PEY/Y+

Happy wandering

Fred

In early 2014 I did 2 days of JASA's under a DSC promotion.

BNE-MEL-PER-KTA-PER-BNE-MEL-PER-KTA-PER-MEL-BNE earning me 740SC usually, but 1480 under DSC. It took me to P1 level.

If i had the $$$ and time i would do MANY a sc run just for the hell of it. Indeed have done before, remember tHE VA appreciation run a few years back. As for 1100 sc on a run, if the only flying done is solely for retaining status its pointless apart from DYKWIA moments.
A new job has seen my wings clipped the past 2 years and im back to gold, after my trip next week to US i will be back to WP Due to a little 260sc run from seattle to vegas and back. First one ive done in years solely for SC, but im sitting on 900 sc when i get back without it, and i consider the delta F earn rate pretty attractive and value for money

Ot though, biggest i have done is BNE-PER-SIN-HKG-SIN-SYD-BNE in 3 days

I did an almost similar SC a few years ago. Really enjoyed it. Maintained P1

Just caught up with this thread. Some pretty impressive action .

I've never done a SC run for the sake of it. An xONEx and a couple of DOM flights to get the squiggles every year sees me comfortably WP - which I've been for the last c. 12 years. Milked the JASAs over the last couple of years - but only to use the points and do interesting things in Africa and S America, not for the sake of status-chasing.

Never bothered chasing P1. Of course, YMMV.

All done in US F, LGA-PHL-DFW-PHX-LGB-PHX-DFW-CLT-LGA-CLT-PHX-LGB-PHX-DFW-CLT-LGA (the last CLT-LGA had an unplanned diversion to PHL due to weather)

This was all done over around 80 hours from leaving the hotel to landing in LGA for the last time. Had two immediate turnarounds at LGB, two overnights in DFW (3 hour waits between flights at 2am really) and one in NYC (proper bed and sleep in a hotel). After landing in LGA about 5 hours later I continued on with my holiday.

I should also add that the next set of flights after the run was meant to be LGA-ORD-OMA but it ended up, due to weather, turning into LGA-ORD-DFW-OMA with a overnight in DFW. LGA-ORD went alright but due to the weather no CRJs were flying in and out of ORD so I transfered to a MD83 flying to DFW and then a MD83 to OMA. ORD-DFW was delayed and hence I ended up with a distress rate for a hotel at DFW but decided to forgo that and grabbed a cot and slept infront of the departing gate for about 4 hours. Got up quick shower and brekkie in one of the AA lounges before boarding my flight to OMA.

My record to make WP is 7 days from my anniversary date, unfortunately ended up not a good memory as I was on a complex US/Europe trip and had a family death which I had to urgently return. Impressed with some of these SC runs.

When we won the ballot for ANZAC Day 12 months ago, I worked out quick smart that we could cease spending and start using the pile of points we've racked up. I stopped spending at around 450SC and started converting. Enjoyed a couple of classic award family holidays and a 20th celebration in HKG all in J ... also booked two x FASA SYD-LHR-SYD and let the status slide to LTG ... got the card in March.

We've just racked up 1,060SC on our FASA/Gallipoli adventure and have another 280SC JASA SIN trip sitting in the rack for June.

The strategy has saved a truckload of $$, burnt a truckload of points and will deliver WP x 2 until March 2017.

Minimal flying involved, but delivered the required result.

Some amazing runs here.

I did BKK-KUL-HKG r/t x4 over a week with 2 nights in HKG on the last leg. It was pretty insane as it was the first time doing something like that b2b. Bumped me up from PS to WP. Cost was around $300 per trip.

What was the cost of that?

Long but few SC runs are one thing, but what about those that fly big hops consistently. Those travellers are the ones to whom I tip my hat. That's an effort. I do lots of short hops and I find it manageable, but I think the novelty would wear thin pretty quick if I did lot's of 15 hour + trips. Also long connections are painful, especially in airports that struggle to call themselves airports.

I think I did something similarImageUploadedByAustFreqFly1431223594.860381.jpg. BNE-MEL-PER-KTA-PER-MEL-BNE x 2. 1 overnight in KTA, the other was flying all day and night retuning to BNE on or about 9am. Couldn't quite fit all the BP's in.
