Whats your biggest SC run and or back to back flying?

Talk about possible SC runs in Japan the last few days prompted me to dig up a spreadsheet i put together of a SC run i did a couple of years back.

Thought it would be interesting to see what the most back to back flying others have done. Either as a SC run or just in normal travel.

The highlighted flights were my actual SC run. The flights before were the end of a family holiday and the last two flights were to get me home.

I did sleep in a physical bed in SJU and MEL!

From memory it was 120 hours from when we left the hotel in Barbados to when i walked in the door at home in Perth...

A few years back I flew FRA-xAMM-CDG and the check in agent was kind of suprised I didn't go direct or catch the train. It was only a short run compared to some of the monster runs that I have seen and read about here

Thanks to that ketsuzei mof_ I flew the equivalent of nearly 16,000 status credits between August 2007 and September 2008 (the collapse of Lehman Brothers). There was one week at the height of the subprime crisis where I came off work HND-HKG-SIN, flew SIN-SYD-HBA to see my family only for the proverbial to hit the fan while I was in the air for the last flight, got straight back on the same plane to SYD maybe 40 minutes later, then flew SYD-HKG, HKG-SIN-HKG-HND, HND-HKG-SIN-HKG-HND, HND-HKG-SIN-HKG-HND, and HND-HKG-SIN-HKG-HND one more time. I think there were six or seven nights along the way, but I barely slept.

I like flying, but these days it's definitely less about the journey than the destination, except when I'm in F.

Since 2008, I've been taking yearly DAS13+DONE3's for my holidays. Parts of those have been for no reason other then to get SCs. One year I did HEL-LHR-DXB-LHR-HKG-NRT-SIN-PER-MEL over 3 days. Only night not on a plane was spent in the Skyview lounge in SIN.

About 3yrs ago I did SYD>SIN>CDG>LYS>CDG>SIN>SYD in approx. 4.5 days.

My husband flew with me a few years ago, he left Sydney as a pleb and returned as a WP. He was clueless and was wondering why he was getting these emails as he went up through the ranks.

That spreadsheet is truly inspirational. I think I might need to get to work on some of these beauties for my upcoming trips.

I don't really get SC runs given how costly they are. What benefits do you get from SG and WP that makes it worth spending several thousand dollars for an SC run?

960 SC for $1500 ? I doubt that is possible these days due to S&F partner SCs and the AUD ex rate.

A few benefits (aside from the bragging rights):

WP and to some extent SG are higher in the pecking order for a points upgrade which is one of the highest-value uses of points.
Also more likely to get an op-up (rare but always welcome)
Potential to access classic award seats in J&F that you can't get at lowlier tiers
Extra status bonus points on flights
Lounge access (F lounges for WP whcih can be impressive)-aside from food and drink, good for sanity if flying frequently
Higher in the queue for service recovery if things go wrong with flight
Extra baggage (useful if taking equipment/samples/stock on business or just a big shopper)
The lock-in factor-the SCs required to get back to a lost status level are higher than retention (with QF at least)
Priority checkin/security/boarding can reduce stresses
All SCs earned contribute to lifetime status which might prove useful

Some of these things are not an issue if you fly in premium cabins as a matter of course, others are. A few are Qantas specific but most are common to other programmes.
Whether doing a Status Run is worth it in terms of money and time (and people thinking you are odd) is a personal decision. The less you fly usually, the less the benefit. If you are very close to the next level, the benefits v cost equation becomes easier.

LOL. I think you need to understand the DYKWIA mentality. it will come automatically with status!

I agree - pretty hard going now.

A few years back I secured 660SCs on an 4+4 segment return MR (4 segments each way). Total cost was AUD849.

There is a lot of info on AFF. As you probably know. many of the best local runs have gone since the demise of the MASA. The BA forum on FT is good for international runs even though the way SCs and Tier Points work is a little different

MASA=a sadly defunct way of obtaining Status Credits on QF Reward Flights at reasonable points/$ cost
FT=Flyertalk, another FF website

Any Seat Awards still exist but now offer very poor value. Very occasionally, reward flights attract (reduced level) SCs as part of a promo

Ordinarily no. But from time to time (maybe once or twice a year?) QF has a special offer where they'll award SCs for award flights on QF metal - the last one was just a couple days ago. But business class didn't really count - you only got economy SCs or something.
