What's your prediction on the Australian Dollar?

Oh wow. No one is going to believe AUD actually started going up when I left Thailand last Wednesday and I had to exchange a sizeable amount this trip.

Hope AUD continues to rise. Parity sounds about right.

Must be a total coincidence that the AUD started up three weeks before first report of new corruption drive in China targeting top 1,000 (not in the power clique) of the Chinese Communist Party.

As Australia has been awarded #1 or #2 destination (depending whether Interpol or other ranking service) for corrupt money laundering - would have nothing to do with the surge would it?

Parity? Not if you are a business trying to compete on the world market. Or even trying to find finance outside of Australia for infrastructure projects woth Australian wage scales.

But I am wandering

Whenever I have been in Europe from June to September, I have noticed the AUD usually gains against a few currencies.

cynical perhaps, but I can't help remembering there was a particularly major push by Qantas Cash recently to lock in large sums of money at 'special rates'. You'd be 10c on the dollar down if you took up their offer just a couple of weeks ago.

They had inside information?

Tonight the $AUD is getting closer to 0.80 and almost 0.61 to the GBP. We are almost back at 0.69 on the Euro.

284,455 foreigners bought residential US properties in the year ending March. Zillow is really good if you want to look, research or window shop.
US residential real estate can be a lot lower than Sydney in many major cities.

Very strong jobs figures for Australia today, for the 9th consecutive month. From an economic perspective we're actually near full employment. Interestingly, it did little for the dollar; in fact, it actually came off a little a short time after the announcement.

We bought some at .7928 and have no idea what will happen from here.

Where and how, may I ask?

Full employment? Yet people complain about the lack of hours and lack of permanency.

Remembering high school economics, "full employment" was generally considered to be an unemployment rate of 2.0-2.5% , depending on GDP growth.

In Australia it was held to be closer to 6% before they recalculated the way "employed" is defined. It's now closer to 4%
