Last week they were saying 50c.

So far that 50 cents prediction has been off the mark.

For AUD to get to 50c, we would need rates to raise in the US while Australian rates stay low, mining to tank and housing to collapse.

Actually, I have already heard such a prediction (yesterday); unfortunately I can't remember where.

got to wonder what's going on in the currency markets

the terms of trade is falling fast after the brief spike in met coal and I/O. Chinese I/O port stocks are MASSIVE, FMG has to discount their low grade ore by 25%

car manufacturers will shut shop over the next few months. resi dwelling construction has peaked and winding down. resource projects still winding down and not much is replacing it.

interesting that as our main resource exports are falling in price the AUD is going up.

It got there Wednesday afternoon, evening after I'd exchanged all money on Thailand trip. Panicked Wednesday morning when it went down Tuesday night.

Expect another drop in 14 days.

Some time ago someone told me they thought the "natural level" for AUD vs USD was 0.75 - it would seem that from looking at the last year or so, 0.76 is the natural high water mark with a small deviation above that and some below... Parity is not going to be a thing unless drastic changes occur to the US Economy, the Australian economy or both (as we saw in the last recession)
