What's your Uber experience?

I don't see any issue with surge pricing. You know about it BEFORE you enter into the contract for that ride. If you don't like it, don't use it. Personally, I think the concept of surge pricing is really clever. It encourages more drivers onto the road to meet demand.
I agree but i think it depends on the trip. I the surge aspect is just in the CBD and the ride is taking you to the airport, then why pay double for the entire journey? Maybe a hire flagfall would be more equitable (to me) for longer journeys.

While some taxi drivers do gravitate to Uber, standards remain higher than a cab and I love the way you settle - no cash and you can rate the driver

I also love the no cash. The tractability of the driver/car for security purposes should be 10 fold what it is of that in a cab. Every uber trip you have is saved with the GPS trip route as well as the drivers registration plate. If you had a serious issue it would be very easy for the police to track them down. With a taxi you have pretty much zero record unless you take note of the cab number. And even then late at night the driver doesn't always appear to be the person on the card.

I seriously believe the 'security argument' uber vs. cabs is a moot point. There is no way you could argue that uber is less safe from a security point of view.

Insurance is another side of things. But again, the stats show that a number of cabs aren't insured anyway.

What would provide further assurance to passengers about driver capabilities (whether it be UberX or taxi) would be the use of gps tracking to weed out the more unsafe drivers. Fleet managers can now use software linked to GPS that looks at incidence of speeding, excessive acceleration and braking etc and can be used to provide feedback to drivers.

We've only used Uber Black for a recent US trip and it was fantastic.

Trips included gratuity for the driver (tried to tip the first driver and he refused and explained) and it was interesting talking to the drivers. One driver in SF told us that he now has 2 cars on the road due to Uber and another also explained that passengers were also rated by the drivers so if you use Uber and find that drivers are driving past you/not accepting your booking it could be because you have been rated as a a'hole multiple times by other drivers.

You can email your local Uber office to find out what your score is. Mines 4.9.

Had an interesting one last night... Called an UberX who was parked about 5 minutes away. Received a call the minute the job was accepted from the guy querying where I was going and how long it would take. General feeling was that he was cherry picking fares. Eventually got in and it was a fairly ordinary experience (car stank of BO, had no idea of the route from Mascot to the city... Actually a typical Sydney cab experience!).

Hopped out and left 2 stars with feedback.

I received a call from the guy today having a go at me for leaving bad feedback and saying "we should have dealt with it as mates". Pretty uncomfortable overall.

Sounds like he's being booted out

Did you report the call today to uber?

Yep just emailed them then. I can understand a little I guess... But it does make it a bit uncomfortable getting a random unexpected phone call

Be interesting to see how Uber deals with this actually.

Imagine he is booted and imagine he dropped you at home.

It was the other way around (pickup at home) and fortunately he was hopeless and drove past twice so I ended up getting in on a sidestreet so I'm not overly worried about that. Still frustrating that my mobile number is easily at hand.

File a report with the police for harassment?

I dont think they would consider one call harassment, seems like there wasnt any threats made or anything.
I would say he would of been booted, or given a good talking to. If you reported he called you after the fact, from what I have heard they would drop him straight away

Yeah I'm not too concerned about a one off. Hopefully he's been moved on.

I used UberX a couple of times on the weekend. I'm an old hand at it now across, X, Taxi and Black.
Heading from home to Homebush in Sydney for the AFL.
Funny story was I actually knew the bloke driving the car. Friend of a friend situation, had a great old chat with him!!
He had only good things to say about Uber as I do too.
Got another one in the city later that night, Larry was great!

Is uber in Bris more expensive than Sydney?

I just did a fare estimate from the Valley to the domestic terminal and its estimating up to $65 for the 14km trip.

That seems exceptionally high. I paid $32 not too long ago from Spring Hill to the airport.
