What's your Uber experience?

The problem based on my discussions with the drivers is that when you move a pin, Uber then sends the GPS coordinates to Google Maps (or the nav system they are using) and GM translates it to the closest address it can get to by car. The pin would most likely be moved during this "translation".

I made this observation early on using Uber (and may have posted about it here on AFF). It's a real flaw in their system. Not using standard/ known geodetic coords and/or integrated properly with G-maps / Open Street maps... it's gonna be fraught.

Your final point about drivers is important... a good/sensible U driver who communicates well can overcome the coughpy app's nav shortcomings.

Yes, surely the driver wants to find the customer and get him/her on board as quick as possible.

Had a short ride in Brisbane last weekend. Was a really nice guy, said we were his 3,999th ride- SIL booked the trip so no way for me to check this

You can get the cancel fee refunded if the driver is more than 5 mins late from the original quoted time.

I have found it much better to type the address instead of moving the pin around. The problem based on my discussions with the drivers is that when you move a pin, Uber then sends the GPS coordinates to Google Maps (or the nav system they are using) and GM translates it to the closest address it can get to by car. The pin would most likely be moved during this "translation".

If you type the address in, it is then passed on to the nav system as a landmark. This way the address/name of hotel appears on the pick up point on the drivers app as well instead of a random street number.

If your driver can't locate where a hotel driveway is. They really shouldn't be driving people around for money. Just rate them appropriately and let the Uber system do its thing.

Is the cancellation fee refunded? or just given as a credit?

I did a cancellation, wrote to them, and got given a credit for the fee, not a refund.

Uber Now Lets You Request A Ride With Multiple Stops - One Mile at a Time

Uber has just rolled out a functionality for riders that’s long overdue. It’s now possible to request an Uber ride that includes up to three stops, either before your ride starts or once it’s already in progress. In the past you could only enter one destination into the app, so you’d have to enter the destination, and then once you got there delete it and enter the next one, etc.

Uber asks that the stops not take more than three minutes each in respect of the driver’s time, or else additional charges will apply.

I’ve used Uber X around Brisbane never had an issue always good. I know at certain airports they can make it hard for them to pick you up though.

Anyone used Uber in Spain? Seems that the service is not available there. But the reports I found were a year old - does anyone have an update or recent experience. Heading the BCN and MAD this week. Thanks.

I was in BCN and MAD in January this year, sadly no Uber then.

Not a good experience for these uber users.... only 57 million users details hacked, definately not any of my information....

Surprised by the lack of reaction on this thread, well not really, but life goes on........ just pay the ransom and all your problems will just disappear. As if that is ever going to happen.

No need. How about data breaches from a good percentage of companies you have your credit card and personal details stored with.

I can think of Telstra, Optus, Qantas, Sony, eBay, Netflix just off the top of my head.

If this is the first time that a data breach really concerns you, you have not being paying enough attention to the news.

Surabaya Juanda international airport, Indonesia.
Despite the Uber app providing information about driver pickups at the airport no Uber driver will enter the airport precinct (nor Gocar or Grabcar), citing potential violence from airport taxi drivers.

You will need to walk 500m to the Mosque outside the main gate.

Trying to use the schedule a ride feature is proving futile. In my attempt to book a car for tomorrow, I keep getting the error notice "Can't schedule a ride in the past"
Guess a taxi it is.

Date security is different for taxis, you pass your card over and it's a direct one on one transaction and they don't hold your card info.

Yes...

How many times have I had dodgy transactions on my corporate card after using Melbourne taxis - 4

I've never had any thing go wrong with a taxi payment. What's a dodgy transaction; a fraud?

In Sydney taxis I've had the amount (manual receipt) altered to a higher amount.

In Melbourne taxis, I've had the card used for subsequent trips which I didn't take. i.e. they just create fake charges.

Do you report these? If so, does anything happen?

That's criminal behaviour and by the appearance and language capability of some of the cabbies, I'd assume visa cancellation and deportation would be on the cards. IMHO, that is the correct course. We neither want, nor need, petty criminals driving cabs.

Yep - that's what has happened with me - extra trips were charged. All disputed and I believe reversed - all of that gets dealt with by the finance team. Card was replaced at some point too. I now have a driver I use in Melbourne to stop it happening.
