What's your Uber experience?

Caught a train from Sunbury Station to MEL the other day. Booked Didi when I was 5 mins out from the station and the driver was there to pick me up just as the train arrived. Worked well.

Didi .... $24
Uber .... $33-38
Ola .... $38- 42
478 bus .... $0 ( + 30 min wait for bus + 10 min longer journey + 10 min walk from busstop at MEL)

The 478 bus would have also cost me a single malt whisky and at least 2 champagnes in the EK lounge which I wouldn't have had time for 🤪

As an aside, how on earth is Ola still in business in Australia? Everytime I look at they seem to more expensive than Uber or Didi.
There is a bus from Sunbury to MEL, but no train.

Also, ola regularly carries discounts. Rather than lower prices, they give discount codes that offset the standard price so often work out cheaper.

Yes, the price I quoted was after the discount code was applied, even dearer before. Last time I left MEL (not to Sunbury) it was $32 on Didi, $38 on Uber and $56 on Ola (after discount code applied, was high $60's before discount code)

3 different Uber drivers have given me DiDi launch promo cards this week, offering a $20 credit, and if i register befoe they launch supposedly 1/2 rides for the first week.

Ive already locked in myuber diamond status for this 6 month period, so I guess i can afford to check it out.

Wonder which driver's card to use?

Uber Diamond status? Is that really a thing?

Yep their rewards program has tiers just like FF programs do. As a Diamond I suposedly get:
* Premium phone support
* Complimentary upgrades
* Price guarantee on may fav route
* Uber comfort savings
* Rewards every 750 points (this results in about 600 QFF points every 2 weeks for me)
* 2 Uber rewards points per $ spent on uber rides
* 1 Uber reward point per $ on uber eats
* Special offers - have had plenty of 20% bonus points lately, previously had 25% off fares for 3 days etc

It launched last november, initial status awarded based on yoru spend in the prior 12 months. You can only enrol form the app not the webste.

Thank you so much for this. I did not realize that Uber Rewards was launched. I just signed up and instantly unlocked Gold, good until 05/Sep/2020

Cheers @Lynda2475

I thought Uber Loyalty is not launched in Australia yet? Or was it only for a targeted set of customers?

Not really sure but when I opened my Uber app yesterday it invited me to join. Apparently I'm gold based on the last 6 months of activity. I can't see this really making any difference to my loyalty between Uber and Didi. I won't touch Ola due to their terrible customer service.

Not sure if this terrible customer service from OLA is their "standard".

I had some bad experiences with Ola (& Uber) in India as well.

They initially accept your ride and when the car arrives at the pick up address, they ask the following :

1. Where are you off to ? If you say somewhere close, say within 10 kms, they simply say that they can't take you there either because it's too close for them to make any money from the ride, or, they say that they won't be getting any rides from where I'm headed to

2. Or they ask if you are paying cash and if you say no, they say that they can't take your ride because the payment from the card company usually take a week to process and they are looking for cash on hand

Cash payments for Uber in Australia arent permitted, so that doesnt happen here.

New Diamond promo this morning (im guessing to head off the launch of Didi next week) - 60% of next 3 rides, then 50% off for rest of the week plus free uber eats delivery.

My issue with Ola is actually their customer support. Ie, when you need to contact them when something goes wrong.

Yep spot on. They are absolutely awful.

As a good Uber experience for a change, I got an Uber from Hong Kong airport to the Langham TST last night for $220 so basically the same as the airport express for two people. Easy pickup and was in the hotel room 30 minutes after leaving the airport. Newish Prius and the driver happily helped with the luggage. Even got some slight entertainment when he opened safari on his iPhone and his previous cough site was still there... never seen somebody close a window so quickly before!
