Boston Bay vineyard is indeed close to the coast. It's very small - only about 10ha.

Coffin Bay oysters at the fish market. $12.90/doz shucked; $9.50/doz unshucked.

The oyster beds are in this area of water.

And the info.

Working in Whyalla 8-24/10 and 2-21/11.

Will be passing in the vicinity about 7 Nov. Aiming to get back to PER as directly and as quickly as reasonable to make it to AFF10.

While I'm in NSW I will need to nut out the best way to break up the route.

Yesterday was pretty easy driving from Port Lincoln to Rawnsley Park Station, just S of Wilpena Pound in the Flinders Range. Beautiful country, made especially so by good rains this year. Hit it at its peak - countryside green and wildflowers at their best.

A fairly full day today. Up early to hike to the top of the S massif of the Pound. 15 km round trip with some fairly tough going getting up the steepest part of the rock face. But just divine at the top. Two view points: looking N over Wilpena Pound and looking SE over Rawnsley Park Station.

Photos do not do justice to the views, especially looking into the Pound. Just doesn't capture the depth.

Then it was back into the car for a 600km run to Mildura for the night. 800 clicks to Canberra is on the agenda for tomorrow.

Some general views of the scenery from ground level:

If you have the time, stop by Helm Winery near Murrumbateman. Riesling is especially good and Ken is a good bloke.

Encountered these in a display outside the RAAF base at Wagga yesterday.

Many years ago he worked at the Canberra HQ of my work before leaving to become a full time winemaker, although I can't remember ever meeting him. Drove past the turnoff to his place coming into Canberra yesterday afternoon. May get out there this afternoon.

If you do get there, ask him to show you his trick for opening screw caps in one cool motion.

Very pleasant morning over coffee today with love_the_life, Flying Mermaid & Mr FM and Rogerkambah.

Good to put faces to handles. Thanks for the meet-up, folks :).

Great to meet you this morning JohnM. Hope you had a good lunch with your friends and safe travels up to BB's ready to animal sit while they swan off overseas :) (sigh)

The Arboretum perhaps?

Correct - and fortuitous timing saw me run into my old boss, who I was going to try to track down this afternoon, also lunching there.

So, a great day all round :).

On the road in the morning the final stretch.

Thanks JohnM for your pictures. We haven't done the drive since the Holden Kingswood days.
Now were the flies still there in Eucla? I remember they were too friendly when we were there about 40 years ago.
You may get us all thinking about it only being 5000 kms and quite a few bug splats to do your run from Perth.
By the way I loved the Kulin photos.

A little early for the flies to be really bad - but they were about.
