When are all the 737's due to be refitted?

They have commenced painting older 737's with the new Livery. the rest should now be a standard product!

Should they? What's the standard product? I still still plenty of red ones and aren't there still plenty with seat back ife?

I personally dont know too much but in my experience of 50 odd trips between BNE-SYD-MELB-TSV in last 6 odd months, the BIZ class is now the standard feature, color and trim of seats inside are all the same. There are some with the old Live2Air product that have been repainted to the VA Livery but again the trims and seats have been updated. I think i read somewhere that VA can do about 2 737's per week if they can as far as repainting goes. I also believe I saw on the tarmac the other day that there is a 737-700 (VH-VBY) that has been repainted to VA Livery

When Mr B originally announced the Game Change program and the rebrading etc... I seem to remember that the fleet repaint was to be complete by end of 2014. I would assume in the slightly tighter economic environ the livery repaints are not a high priority. And now that they are doing refits on XFA and XFB I don't care what colour any of the aircraft are! Goodbye to that horrid excuse for IFE on those two aircraft.

As far as I can see, all 737 700 & 800's have all had the interiors completed with j class, carpets, seat covers etc.
I think the exterior livery is going to take some time. Worth noting that live to air foxtel remains in the older aircraft and i assume at this stage won't be taken out until the aircraft leases are up etc

I wasn't referring to the J product. I mentioned the painting and the in-seat ife as the two things I've recently noticed. That is, the entire refurb of the old planes, not just a J conversion. It doesn't bother me, I was curious about why I see one white old plane with no in-seat ife and another red one with no in-seat ife. It seems they may be removing it and then painting and IIRC, that's what was originally suggested. I think it was just the 700s said to remain as is until decommissioning (but I can't be sure of any of it, to be honest).

I thought JB had said that XFA/B weren't going to be refitted? Pleasant surprise if otherwise, but i'll miss the nose wheel cam!

I dont really remember the time frame for repainting the fleet, but regardless it doesnt change much about the experience This said, I do remember JB saying it would be much quicker than QF, which still has huge numbers of old livery aircraft flying around (admittedly the livery change wasnt as distinct). IIRC, as a stop gap to hasten the rollout of J class accross the fleet some 737s were only refitted from rows 1-6/7/8 (?) with the remaining seats left intact with L2A capability etc. Dont know if this is still the case but perhaps the seats have been recovered to match the rest of the fleet but not been physically replaced? (leaving L2A installed for the time being?)

Since when? I thought JB recently committed to the current interiors. I've had a couple of trips on the old EK birds and they rank as two of my worst flying experiences. Terrible IFE, the whole thing creaking not to mention the hideous seats!

The ZK-PB* fleet has had all this done, expect hasn't had J added.

Remember that old Virgin Blue aircraft painted in Aqua Blue? "Virgin's 50th Plane" You're looking at it right there.


(Little known fact about VH-VBY, inside on all the overhead lockers are the names of staff who were employed at Virgin at the time of her delivery)

The story goes that Mr Borghetti hated the look of it so much he made sure it was the first to be repainted! Of course, that's just a rumour.

Now I *think* (may be getting mixed up with another aircraft) that's the only 737-700 that Virgin owns, and as such, the only one they've bothered to repaint as the rest of the 737-700s will be leaving the fleet in the near future. This bird however, is here to stay!

And yes you are quite right, it is the only 737-7 that VA actually owns, thus explaining it being the first aircraft to get a repaint (the other 737-7s leases are being allowed to expire as they come up)

VBZ is the other 700 that is owned by VA, the bin lids off VBY are on display somewhere in the Virgin Village. VBU will be leaving the fleet next month and VBV latter this year.

Thanks, nice to know. So the old 737-800 I saw that was nicely white.......is it the only non-BSI in white, or are there a few of them now?

Hi Swanning_it, VOK, VOQ, VUF, VUG, VUY and VUZ are all non-BSI 800s that have been painted white.

Thanks for that. So a few are done then. I wondered if I was imagining it for a while. I do like the white better than the red.
