When did the new Velocity website get loaded. Talk about epic FAIL!

The rewards store will be relaunching next month and it's very much in the style of these updates. Oof.

It's like they've taken all the good things from the Delta UX and reverse engineered them into garbage.

I see no issues with it. All loaded quickly and easy to navigate.

Seems like a polarising topic here. I'd love to know the age demographic of the FOR and AGAINST.

It would be interesting to see if an (ahem) "experienced" long term user of the site has the most difficulty and whether the younger (app savvy) flyers just jump straight in with an instinctive orientation OR is the site difficult to navigate for everyone because it isn't seamless enough.

Now before you all lynch me, I just want to know if it sucks because it's unfamiliar and we humans do all hate change.....

One thing for sure - it's not going away. Hopefully it will become the new normal.

PS - asking because I'm a graphic artist and this type of feedback is immense fun to play with :)

What sort of internet speeds do you get and how 'fast' is your computer?

Much of this type of development is done with high end computers and exceptional bandwidth. This often does not translate into a good interface in the real world.

I hate it. I dont wash flashy moving tiles with photos of sunkissed women. I just want data!

Just give me my info in a easy to read table, not circles and graphics.

Same.

However some here will always hate anything/everything that VA does....

Equally there are some here that will always seem to love anything/everything VA does which after a while ensures their opinion isn’t taken very seriously anymore :)

It’s an interesting one isn’t it. I’m in the 25-30 bracket for your research :)

Honestly I feel this has been designed with the intent to simplify and dumb down the delivery of information for lighter and less frequent Velocity users.

Velocity are throwing around points like they are free, intently signing up loads of members and their status levels are easier to achieve than Qantas. I suspect the old portal was a bit too much information for the average punter to make sense of so they have ‘simplified’ and cut down the information to make it ‘easier’ for people.

Of course you can’t design everything for everyone and the flip of that is that higher user people like AFF who want more info, quickly, will probably not enjoy the new experience as much.

Just my thoughts!

It's clearly been re-designed with tablet use in mind rather than desktop. Info is available and clearly laid out.

Working well for me at work which is typically slow.

The "your status" section is much better with much more obvious retain and upgrade details.

If you access via an iPad, the top two menus don't appear.

The first missing menu isn't so import which has "The Basics" "Partners & Offers" etc.

But the second one has "My velocity" "My Activities" etc. which is very handy.

Unsure who's idea it was to have three menus ... They need to rethink their logic.

(The third menu has the Quick Links)

Pretty sure Velocity / Virgin Australia's IT department is located in Australia ... Nowhere in Australia has "exceptional bandwidth". Nor is a "high end computer" really going to make a website run that much faster.

(Though Edge on Windows 10 proclaims it is better and faster than another web browser ......)

This is a website of a retail & brand consultancy ... FITCH .... Pretty shocking!

In house development bandwidth is generally 'exceptional' when compared with the real world.

So each developer has a 1 Gigabit internet connection at a 1:1 contention ratio ?? No wonder Velocity / Virgin Australia doesn't make a profit!

A big factor of the website speed is really down to the web hosting. Doesn't matter how fast your internet is or how fast your computer is.

A computer or the internet is never going to be as fast as human expectations.

I still think it SUCKS.

Took me 5 minutes to find where to see if my flights this weeks posted.

Everyone has their own opinion. Takes me a few seconds.

Login. My Velocity (top right), click on "My Dashboard". Scroll down (if needed) and it will display "Your points activity" and will show you the latest posting. Click on "View all activity".

Or use the smartphone app. (On iPhone) open app, click where it displays the points balance, click "velocity Activity History".

Or just cheat and go to (lots of people just bookmark pages on websites to go to what they want straight away) : https://www.velocityfrequentflyer.com/content/MyAccount/MyActivities/

So VA's developers are in house?

Don't be silly, they have been mainly offshored certainly since they got into SABRE.

I work in IT and know how development environments have worked. I hate post loads/AJAX on websites, so I may be biased.
