when will state borders re-open?

Supreme Leader 39% PalAZczuk could care less. It's always the employees and business owners that suffer the consequence of these irrational border and exemption decisions.

You may mean 'couldn't care less'. Between her and Dear Leaders Daniel Andrews and Mark McGowan, and not far behind Steven Marshall and maybe Peter Gutwein, it's a closely fought contest as to who's closest in style to Xi. My vote is Andrews 1, Palasczuk/McGowan equal 2 not far behind, a bit of a gap to Marshall and then a fair gap to Gutwein. Unimpressive the lot of them.

It must be a nightmare living in a border location as one AFF aviator does and knowing (at times) 'freedom's just across the Murray').

Looks like they took a leisurely saunter up the Newell to get to the Sunshine Coast.

The Moree mayor quoted as being very unhappy that people escaping lockdowns did so via regional NSW.

My Glorious Leader PalAZczuk has been harsh on most everything COVID; now it's time for her to make an example of this breach, for what seems wanton disregard at this point.

It makes me think, that if for example, home quarantine is to be a stepping stone to international travel at some point, how do certain State Government Esteemed Leaders have any faith in citizens doing the right thing, when such selfishness is on display.

It's been that way from the start. Nothing now. Which is why opening those borders is going to be difficult.

McGowan the most arrogant, closely followed by Palasczuk. I’m a Vic and as much the lockdowns have affected me, I have a soft spot for Andrews because he’s done the hard yards. We also have the most disgusting and out of touch opposition in the country. Apart from Gladys I hear very little of the other premiers.

I will say as much as I don't like the VIC ALP, Dan Andrews is much more diplomatic and pleasant compared to Merlino who seems to just be focused on taking cheap political shots (reminds me a bit of Steven Miles in QLD). It will be good to see him back.

I have been told by my friends in Melbourne that there is a degree of Stockholm Syndrome. If you want to hear about the state of the nation, there are plenty of channels to avail yourself of what is happening around the country beyond the Victorian echo chamber.

And here's what the Acting Premier in Victoria had to say late this arvo: (from 'Herald Sun' website):

FIFTH LOCKDOWN NOT RULED OUT

Amid the “significant announcements” on Wednesday, acting Premier James Merlino did not rule out a fifth lockdown for Victoria.

-----------

I bet Alan Joyce sobbed...but not (sadly for him and QFd) tears of joy. It isn't his, John Sharp's or Jayne Hrdlicka's fault that a certain CHO constantly imposes lockdowns when NSW for one avoids that drastic measure as far as possible.

A disgrace how with the exception of the lady in NSW, we have such poor political leadership in Oz at State level. Nationally, Scomo isn't always impressive but unfortunately he's somewhat hidebound by the Constitution.

I worry for businesspeople who can't meet in person - not great - but beyond that, it's those with rellies and friends interstate who as far as our nation goes are really suffering.

The toll in lost investments and jobs, mental illness and stress among sole traders, casual and part time employees and SMEs is slowly starting to be documented in Victoria. Not pretty, and no joking matter. However most of the Victorian government MPs and staff have only ever worked in the public sector/politics so they lack understanding. They think throwing $2000 at a small business will 'save' it.

I just also cancelled an interstate trip - one that was rescheduled from an earlier one thrown due to an earlier outbreak. :(

I’m not seeking to blame any level or side of politics but I’m all in favour of vaccination and ‘passports’ that would overcome these border closures, if that becomes viable.

Taken leave for two trips to Perth over the next 3.5 weeks. First one is next week - dead. After that, 1 July - currently on death row and not optimistic on the appeal. It's more frustrating when you then also can't do anything with the time taken off work either. Can't conjure more leave to replace the lost family time. Will be fully vaccinated shortly so hoping that vaccinated persons are exempt. Would do an amazing service to our economy and small businesses.

Looks like Saturday 5th February is the magic date for the LAST (WA) domestic border re-opening !

who was closest ?
at least THERES only 4 pages to browse to find out (unlike the 644 pages on the International thread!)

It would have been poignant if it were on Australia Day...
