Where are the awards?

@kangarooflyer88 The rabbit hole was a long and winding one and I just couldn't find any Zurich flights for my dates later in May. But I decided to take your advice and seriously looked at Rome and I did find a very nice business class Qatar flight to Rome ( albeit via Brisbane) although it was the day after I wanted to leave. Anyway, So I have re-jigged the itinerary completely so we will start with Rome and finish with Como. I'll now try and find another thread that tells me about any pitfalls in Brisbane Airport with transiting from domestic to an international flight! :)
Thanks so much for your great advice and tips.

If by this you mean you would turn it into a OneWorld Classic Award… unfortunately adding a QF flight will not help you to qualify.
You need two OneWorld carriers that are NOT QF. You can have QF as well, but first need the 2 others.

From the Book of Rules:
14.5.1 A oneworld Classic Flight Reward is a Classic Flight Reward Itinerary that includes travel on at least two oneworld Member Airlines other than Qantas and does not include any travel on any airline that is not a oneworld Member Airline.

Link to Book of Rules:
yes, the other 2 are not QF.

Great to see you found some value in the Qantas Points and sorry to hear you weren't able to find a date that works out of ZRH. A couple questions I'll ask for the forum on your behalf, since I don't know the answer and I think would be relevant for your trips:
  • If you don't hold Gold frequent flyer status with QF and are flying a QF domestic segment in Y could you still avail yourself of the lounge and priority services (e.g. business class check in) given the international long haul portion is all in J on a one world partner airline, Qatar?
  • How does checked baggage allowance work for that QF domestic sector? Will it be the same baggage allowance they would receive on the long haul QR J flights they are connecting with?
  • What lounges (if any) could they avail themselves of at BNE International departures flying QR J?
  • Is there an arrivals lounge in FCO they can avail themselves of flying QR J?
  • Any other general travel advice for Rome? It's my understanding FCO has a train station so in theory they should be able to get to Rome/Lake Como fairly effortlessly.

@kangarooflyer88 great questions! Thanks.
I do know the answer to one of them 😀. As I’ve rejigged the itinerary I’m going straight from FCO into Rome. There is a great public transport system from the airport into the city. After a few nights in Rome we will go to Florence for a few days, then back to Rome for a cruise. After the cruise we will train (4.5 hours) to Como. The website themaninseat61.com is a great resource for all things trains in Europe. You can pre book all your tickets and it’s an excellent way to get around Italy.
But Forumers I’d live the answers to the the questions posed on my behalf!

Agreed, I haven’t been able to find anything past 30th Nov coming into Australia from DXB. I have found EU going to DXB then nothing onward. I can easily bring up paid fairs for the same route bringing me back to AU.

I have looked in the Calendar with Y/P/J/F and all blank.

Flying from DXB to SIN or another larger Asian hub I can also find flights with EK or QR.
I’m still having this issue. Have you found an answer?

QF call centre are if no help at all. Seems very strange there’s nothing released to any AU port ex DXB.
I've also been searching for these Emirates flights so I'm very glad to have found this thread which lets me know I'm not alone and/or doing something incorrect. I asked the question about it on a Facebook points page and got slammed with people telling me I need to be flexible and asking me if I was aware that Emirates flies to alot of places..... I was like I know this but there is literally availability on multiple routes all the way to 30 November 2022 and then just nothing... been checking daily for ages.

I’ve just spoken to EK and QF and can’t get any answers from either airline. It seems really strange given their recent press release about expanding the relationship. I too have checked all port in Aus ex DXB for December and January.

On the EK FT thread it has been mentioned that EK are only releasing 1 seat on certain routes which is another factor.

I hope the situation rectifies soon. During Covid, awards were pulled indefinitely and you could no longer predict when the awards would be released, as we could before.

As we head toward normality I hope this changes.

I posted this in another thread but thought it was also relevant here.

[cynic hat] - From a small sample, essentially this tells me that BA have awards on some flights that QF are deliberately not making available.

Anyone knows if QR will release more J seats to Qantas closer to departure date?

every time I search flights to HK on multi city, it crashes on me. Can I ask what month you were looking at?

Long-haul International J award seats are very limited and usually snapped up 10months out from departure, would have t be very lucky to find any with only 1 weeks notice.

Prior to Covid it seemed easy to snap up J to Tokyo, Taipei, HK and Singapore 2-3 weeks out. Or maybe we were just extremely lucky each time. Our luck certainly seems to have run out....
