Sometimes pleasant and unpleasant.

Such as the friend a work colleague met whilst in Vegas. She didn’t use a toothbrush in the morning but did depart with his wallet and iPad.

Interesting police report: what was the persons name? Ummm, don’t know.

No further details of this story can be supplied because what happens in Vegas…
Always avoid hotels who advertise rates by the hour…

On topic: I had requested toothpaste and received a kit an a hotel in India without drama
In a SAS Y business lounge in CPH I was given a toothbrush which was toothpaste-impregnated .. just add water to use. Not seen since

I have usually had dental kits in my room and if not request same from Reception (I do always travel with mine but my travel companion tends not to). At the Sofitel in Brisbane last week they have changed their dental kits to bamboo toothbrush and environmentally friendly toothpaste in a small brown packet, just enough for a little clean.

There must be a lot of waste in the hotel industry
Little bottles of shampoo etc.
Single use plastic toothbrushes.
Supplied bottles of water where tap quality is poor. (Accor’s efforts to use larger glass bottles in each room and ‘gallon’ water bottles in the hallways to refill from, is to be applauded)
Towels getting changed each day (often irrespective of those ‘save the planet by hanging up your towel’ signs).
Food wastage at buffets (food taken but left on people’s plates, not generally a direct hotel problem)

Modern capitalist society loves consumption.

^ And hates potential inconvenience ... there was strong dislike for non-disposable straws around here recently, for example.

Then there's the half used toilet rolls.
(For those that wonder - how often do you see a more than half used toilet roll in a hotel room.. )

The paper’s always been fresh & unused for me … but I’ve not been to many places …

At both the hotels we used in Bangkok last month they would replace the toilet roll when it got to half use even though both toilets had an extra roll as well.

They must throw out a lot of half used toilet rolls...

I think it ends up at the home of a few of the staff. Knowing a succession of managers very well I am also sure they have permission to do so.
