Easy one.
There was a historiographical tradition claiming that xx_ himself adopted both the flag and the patron saint from this republic at some point during his crusade. This idea can be traced a "common belief", and it is still popularly repeated today even though it cannot be substantiated as historical.

where are we. There was a massacre in this area in February 13, 1692 which was the historical precedent for the Red Wedding episode of GOT.

Ok, as you the only one left playing along, it is the Brecon Beacons, the range where the SAS are know to train (once quite tragically). The ponies are from the old Welsh mining pits.
the only place in the British Isles I didn't guess and I've been there several times 🤷‍♀️
