Is that the MEL Park Royal in the background?
MEL yes but don't think the Park Royal is visible. Maybe the Holiday Inn?

QF 8 (?) A380 flight from SFO-SYD. Photo taken 9 am April 30, 2013. Diverted to MEL from SYD because of fog. On ground parked at Melbourne Freigh Terminal (no gates available) for 1.5 hrs then crew ran out of hours. Fortunately we were in F. :)

I believe JB747 was the captain. We had a chat in the doorway as I remember.

Park Royal on the left hand side of the frame, though I think it was still a Hilton then.

The story is that QF12 diverted from Sydney to Melbourne due to fog at Sydney. I wasn't the Captain of QF12. I was at home, having a nice sleep on a day off, when the phone rang at about 6am. There was no basing in Melbourne at the time, so scheduling were trawling amongst the commuters to see if anyone felt like going to Sydney. The pilots were going to run out of hours before the aircraft could be turned around, and as there was still fog in Sydney, that wasn't going to be quick. The cabin crew could not be replaced, and ultimately they also ran out of hours. So, FO and I took the aircraft to Sydney, and left everyone else behind. Turned out to be the very last time I ever flew Melbourne-Sydney (of the 700 or so times that I had).

For some reason I'm getting Adirondacks, NY vibes. But vermont also seems possible.
or perhaps Ozarks?
which picture are you talking about? It's a good idea to quote and reply to make it easier for people to follow along because it does get kind of crazy on here sometimes. ;)
