Since I decided to vote on the weekend, the AEC decided to send me a Final Demand notice for not voting in the earlier WA state election this year. Never mind that the original demand was never received, but anyway.......... obviously as I'm resident in the UK I shouldn't have to pay it... do I just address a letter to the AEC stating that? Do I need to send anything else, e.g. copy of my Visa, etc?

Surely just a statement that you were unable to attend a polling place being in the UK should be enough.

Might need to be on a stat-dec, but a written explanation should be all that is required.

Signed and sent. I love how they sent the final demand with extra $$ added on, when the original "demand" was never received. Also it conveniently came out a few days after I voted. Cynic much? :)
